the joy of wrinkled cloth,  how alive it is,  free,  unstitched.

small scraps i've not seen in a long time….the pleasure of finding  them,  reuniting.   This is the same wrinkled piece as above.  Just the difference in time of day it was photographed….the first color is close to true,  except with a soft green cast from the Coyote Bush.   was at first light this morning.   All the cloth is sorted.  What seemed such an impossible task took two days  and everything is Good.  For Sure,  enough for my lifetime.

Your Joy and Goodness are in the cloth. Love looking at it.
You are making me consider wrinkles are okay- beautiful. And you might know that I love ironing.

I too love ironing Joanne but also see the beauty in wrinkled cloth. grace and I, over the years, have held many discussions over this because I rarely work with wrinkled cloth. Since the cloth collages I make are quite simple, I always iron my naturally dyed scraps and cloth pieces of all sizes after they have dried because it helps me to lay them out, pressed, to see what they want to tell me about story. Yet there have been times when I just know that a cloth needs to be wrinkled because I need to tell of arroyos and cliffs and curvy dirt paths…isn’t it just fine how story comes from wrinkled and smooth, large and small, curvy and edged, tattered and folded…cloth is joy, plain and simple.

The long dark ikat scrap is making me giddy with enjoyment.
*(forgot to tell you in email they said your package “would likely” arrive on Saturday. How is that possible????? Point is it should definitely be there the next time you are making the run …)

Yvette, my NorthStar, you DO cope. You DO gather yourself….every day. Our challenges differ. I would not do well at all with the physical challenges that you meet day unto day. Am not good at that, or i don’t think i would be because it has not been asked of me.
For me, you are always There. I know i can write to you and you are there.
I love you and hold you as part of my Heart. My sister.

yes. i do know that. and it reminded me…ironing…
    the scent of ironed cloth,
of my Aunt Francis to whom i was sent when i was in first grade. for a school sememster.
    She had a
    Mangle iron
I would sit, doing something while she sent her laundry into the Mangle Iron, rhythmically, piece after piece, folding, sending in again, towels, wash cloths, sheets, pillow cases, dish towels, work cloths on and on, i remember the rhythm and the scent.
