have you tried stitching en plein air? do you have an outdoor picnic table to spread the cloth out on or the clothes line?

I like the sticking en plein term! Perhaps the tree is sewn on with invisible basting while upright and then placed over a hard surface to do a thorough attaching but in pieces.
Or even sitting with a large book or hard surface on the lap to stitch against.
    Interesting dilemma! A beautiful tree.

it’s Monday now and yes…the table is cleared…the one
up here. There is also the one down at the Wall Garden.
and we’ll see about the clothes line…Vertical with
large pieces is difficult…there always seems to be
    some wind lately

it is needing to be in place before knowing how to
    approach the rest

some string attached to the corners and tent pegs stuck in the ground would hold it from flapping
