this day has moved.  Moved.

this rock,   from when Emrie and I were along the bank of the creek.  it's WEIGHT is wonder FULL….solid,  substantial,  of Use.  it is so perfectly formed…i wonder if it might be from the Peoples' grinding stones?   is perfect in the palm.  a while back,  when i was down at the Wall Garden,  Next Door Dave's dogs appeared and shortly after,  Dave's woman,  Angela,  dragging their rope leashes all apologizing but at the same time repeating their mantra….they won't hurt anything…they are just curious ….and me responding with ….probably not,  but they cannot be here…

and then in the extended exchange she asked me if i'd found  "artifacts".   and went on to say that she and Dave had come over here through the years and collected MANY artifacts…the grinding bowls/stones,  arrowheads, etc.   That they had them all over their yard.

no…i said.  We have found none.   and internally thought…because you took all of them.

but here.   This stone.  rock.  perfect in the palm.  and there is such a sense of Balance to hold it

“Because you took all of them.”
Subtext and/or context of so much that goes unnoticed by the person explaining something larger and quite different than what they intend to convey.
The vignettes you share evoke so many glimpses through other people’s perceptual windows and really stick with me through the years. A kind of reporter’s voice that offers layered extrapolation. You’re really good at conveying your impressions that leave us able to form greater understanding of your layered reality.
A spirit house for the maker of tools and the materials they used??????

I definitely would have thought the same — because you took all of them.
When owners let their dogs run up to mine (a rescue and not very social) telling me that their dog is friendly so it’s okay, my inner thought is “until they aren’t.”
I have hope that you will find more as the artifacts will reveal themselves when it is time.

Like Acey I was struck by the layering of meaning between neighbors. My beef lately is how homeowners are not asking their yard crews to abide by the ban on gas-powered leaf blowers. We’re supposed to get a few month’s respite from their awful whine. I hate how it seems to get framed as ME/Cranky Neighbor and NOT law/result of a three year deliberative process. And yeah, I am cranky. I have a dog that lunges and barks but I never say he’s friendly. Just assure neighbor that he’s leashed.
