She begins by saying:  "The existential threats of climate change,  the COVID19 pandemic,  and the rising numbers of forcibly displaced people make visible a new reality of social,  political, and economic inequalities that is impossible to ignore.  As an increasing number of people are forced to move and adapt to unexpected life scenarios,  they have to find strength, inspiration, and hope in moments and in places where it seems so easy to surrender to hopelessness.

Glimpses of our shared future may well be found in the present day living situations of displaced people.  ".

i've just begun but it is what i imagined it would be.  I am so grateful for this book,  so grateful that i found out it exists through the NPR interview with Azra Aksamija.    As i read,  i will relay some of its Story back here.

and THEN….LaceLady alerted me to the

On Being Mid Winter Gathering      Next Tuesday,  December 21, 2021  Solstice     "Join Krista and some wonderful special guests to mark the turning of the enduringly strange and uncertain year of 2021 with honesty, care and insistent clear-eyed hope. "   It is Free,  but you need to register.   I hope you might listen.  it might provide common language for Us as we go into 2022

As i write this the RAIN and WIND continue.  it has been a week of this.   Last night,  there was meow at the door and she won't actually make any move to come in of her own volition  but she must have reached some personal limit,  to have come to the door……and Speak.   I went out,  picked her up,  almost falling off the step,  she is HEAVY and for the rest of the night there was some strange purring…like needing WD-40,  rough, gutteral purring .   She shifted around in all the possible spots  until i lay down to sleep and then it was as Cats are,   across my legs,  on a shoulder,  around my head like a hat.  All the reasons i don't love indoor cats,  Dear Dead Tazmeena being the exception.  But she asked.   I had to honor the Asking.   Am listening for her now.

Her limit indeed. How could you not? The sound of purring puts me to sleep like nothing else. Why do they purr? Don’t really want the science about that.
This book put me in mind of the Foxfire Series. Do you remember them? They were stolen so often from the library that they moved them to the reference room. You had to read them there, no check out. I learned so many things.

A book to add to the wish list…. I am reading Wintering by Katherine May right now. It’s such a lovely book. The other night I had one cat between my legs, one on my back and the other trying to lay on my face. It’s like a living fur blanket when they do that, and when they all start purring…

Hello grace and all. Belated birthday wishes grace. I had gotten accustom to reading but not commenting during the disqus days, but recently had also gotten behind in reading your blog, more than a month behind. It made it big to catch up. But over the last couple days I have. So so much there. You think and feel so deeply and express it so well. Magic diaries cloth. I remember the stitching of the gate. Giana, alluvial fan. Cloth as an element. Blanca and the old cowboy’s passing. The impulsive nature of wanting stuff. The move to CA. From fire season to green season as we leave green season here. Time tracing. Remembering. The taken for granted luxury of hot water. Spoon theory. Today was nice to end with and with puppy asking to come in. Big love to you and this community. Thank you.
