to Document.    Covid has come.    Jeff picked up Fate as he does every thursday after school.   Upon arriving home,  he was coughing.    How Alyssia put it:   We cut and run.    This is a long story short  and there's no way i can explain it so it makes any sense without paragraphs and paragraphs and i'm not into it.    Enough to say that Alyssia still has access to the little Yellow House next door where she originally rented.  It's been empty since they moved into the White House.  A lot of stuff is still there.   She drove to Jenny's and picked up a Covid Test,  returned and did it.  Spent the rest of pretty much  all early night hauling things out through  Julian's bedroom window  (its big).   Over to the Yellow House which is just on the other side of the  Car Port and the little forest of  Crepe Myrtle and Geraniums.    Julian had the option.  Yellow House  OR  HIS ROOM  and the bathroom in Alyssia's room next door.  He chose his room.   The rest of the house is  Jeff,  Brinley and  Fate.     When the large extended family in the White House got evicted,   they moved there.  It's much bigger.   The Yellow House has issues,  like ify electric and frogs in the bathroom.   Is a rent with option to buy.   Involved with a VA Loan for Alyssia.

test was Positive.

And so.

They just came…it's dark….to pick up the double burner hotplate that i had brought from New Mex that has been in one of the storage tubs down at B.   While finding that today i also found a lot of other things.   The cobalt doorknob.  Other stuff,  like the basket of Goat scurs.   I might say here…..this herd is registered with the Nigerian Dwarf  Dairy Goat Association….officially called    Crazy Wisdom Dairy.

So…Fate went back to his mother's today.   She has taken the week off.    Days will go by,   to test Jeff and Brinley.   Alyssia and Emrie will remain in the Yellow House with the frogs.  Julian will continue coming and going through his bedroom window.

Jenny's man came back from a weekend to Phoenix for his grandson and namesake's first  birthday.  He brought covid.    When she came yesterday to bring Grass Hay,   she said she feels like Typhoid Mary.   We paused,  staring off into the trees….small stinging  tears…but then we went Forward.   There's nothing else to do.

I’m beginning to think it’s no longer “if” but “when”

Yes, it’s the only option. It’s finally hitting us hard at work and finally one of my family caught it (vaccinated). Closing rooms as we need to. I agree with Liz, think it’s “when.”

It is hard when anyone gets Covid, but especially children. Hoping that Fate will only have a mild case and that all the rest of your family will test negative.
The reality is that we have to live our lives and even though we do all we can to stay protected, there will be situations beyond our control. Lately, I find myself becoming so suspicious when I venture out, wondering who is vaccinated, and who is not.
Last week I went to the smaller library that we have here in Rio Rancho. As I had not been there in two years, I noted the changes and as I checked out my books and turned to leave, stepping into the foyer, before the sliding glass doors opened, a woman came in, mask in hand,(you are required to wear a mask in libraries) but she didn’t put on her mask until she stepped from the foyer into the library. Well I have to tell you that I felt a moment of panic because she was very close to me. My knee jerk response was to wait five days and then test myself, negative, but this new reality makes me feel haunted…

I am really hoping to avoid a covid case here as my husband is now recovering from surgery. (He’s coming home today.) But I might not be able to avoid it. It is just so crazily disruptive, as your story describes. Deep breath, and hope for the best for all.

We have been so careful for these past two years. My husband tested positive yesterday. Best wishes for no symptoms, or very mild cases-especially for the little ones.

Definitely a ‘when’ rather than an ‘if.’ It never will go away, but once everyone has had it, it shouldn’t be worse than a clod or regular flu.
Current variant is very mild if you’re vaccinated. I was mildly ill for one day. I don’t think I had it, but afterward I learned I had been exposed. The person who definitely had it was also mildly ill (flu-like) for only one day. Apparently others are mildly sick for a few days. Hope it’s no worse for your family who have it and that you manage to avoid it.

Fate was ok all along. Like a cold. He has a crummy
immune system. This will be ongoing. There is
confusion about how it’s going to be dealt with. Kids
    at his school are unmasked.
it’s the haunted thing that we need to reframe somehow.
That its a harsh new reality for some of us.

my fear is for Alyssia with all her complex pre existings.
There’s no way to guess how it would be for her
    and all those like her.
