still raw.  but no smell.  surrounding skin looking some better.    Topical  anti microbial,  non stick gauze pads,  gauze wrap then elasticized type wrap to whole leg to prevent excessive movement so nerves and ligaments can heal.  We send pics to Vet.  It's going to be slow going.   At some point she will return and evaluate.  Too soon for that yet.  He's holding his own.  There are several more superficial wounds on neck and side but they are scabbing     Continuing with crushed pills mixed with peanut butter and molasses smeared on ritz crackers which he looks forward to.   Meloxicam every other day and Gabapentin for pain every morning.   Gabapentin was what Tay had for the rattlesnake bite.

he is using his foot,  hoof,  in more normal way today,  tho still drags it forward when walking,  but there is no longer any hesitation to do this.   Getting up and down is no longer a struggle.   He needs to remain in the Curry House Infirmary with the SunShine Corridor.   His yard is too steep.   Did i already talk about that?,  it's kind of all a blur,  these last days.

yesterday afternoon i opened the gates for the Doe Goats.   They are thrilled.    Heading out immediately and since,  have smelled and investigated every single rock and branch to orient again.  They are skittish  to sound and even movement of birds.  They remember.   Alert,   they just go.   yes.

once upon a time I was a volunteer EMT … never did get over my visceral response to lacerations, but when you gotta do it, you do it

How we move on…ever vigilant, ever alert and how during those excruciating moments of trauma, we feel as if getting back to a form of normal, just may not happen but somehow, it does. May not be the normal from before but still, ever strong, ever caring, doing what was and is still needed, one day at a time.

Oh Grace all the love and care you’ve all given is being rewarded .. the wounds will heal but how it came about will be a hard one to move past.

TLC + Ritz crackers + meds…a potent combo for healing. So glad Sunny Ray is doing better.

I am so happy to hear that Sunny Ray trotted today. He is moving forward at his needed pace. Puncture wounds heal from the bottom up instead of having the sides approximated and stitched. It takes longer but it is good because you don’t want to trap any germs in that environment.
Several years ago I accidentally fell and landed on my dog. He bit almost through my bare foot. I don’t remember how long it took to heal but I do remember how much better it felt as soon as the swelling went down. I don’t know Sunny Ray’s leg intimately enough to know how much swelling is still there but his behavior today showed how much better he has gotten. How he feels.
Thank you for loving him so much.
