whatever else happens,  where ever else i go with cloth….    These.    All the while i am saying   I don't know,    they came.  Clearly and surely.   i will stitch.   Stop questioning and simply Receive.

“Stop questioning and simply Receive.” I think this is IT:
For so many years, I needed to be doing, be productive, not waste time, be the top of my game, whatever may game was but now in my elder years, the arrogance of needing to do and be all has quietly gone. In its place, is a richness of acceptance, a willingness to let what comes, come, in its own good time. The biggest lesson that I have learned from the way I work with cloth is to have patience, to wait for the foraged materials to reveal themselves, to listen to the elements, and I include Cloth as an element.
In my first years of learning to naturally dye cloth and then create my simple landscape collages, I was a “furia” the Spanish word for fury, could not dye or make fast enough, pushing, rushing, feeling that I had to produce and the funny thing about this is that I was not selling my work, have never done so but I would email friends and attach photos of what I was doing- the need for validation was so strong. These days, now and then, I still send the occasional email and photo but it is to share a discovery or simply, to continue my story and journey with cloth.
Learning to accept what comes in its own good time has enriched my life, had made me value what I have come to learn from cloth, from foraging and dyeing, and especially what I have come to learn about myself and the exchange has and continues to be quite the gift as it is the ultimate example of reciprocity.

The need to ask why ebbs and flows for me. I am asking why more right now as a way of checking, am I really spending time the way I want to? Maybe there are better questions.

    Questions are beginnings
    answers are ends
I’ll hold close to the questions
    and make them my friends

Yes, indeed. A very good mantra- simply receive. But the quote from The Illuminated Books of Cats is also very good. Hmmm . . . maybe it asking the questions AND simply receiving without necessarily having the answers. A balance of asking, listening and receiving/doing with understanding simply a thread woven in and out.
