just as you come in to Carefree Way.   Why hadn't i  noticed them before ?   ….their color being  bright…?    oak galls.

i'll check for an exit hole and if there is ,  will bring them up to that old cast iron pot,  tie some cloth and see what happens.   if there isn't,  just wait.

I remember seeing the first oak gall that I was to learn about at the local college where I was teaching at the children’s center. This was internet was younger, but the children, my co-worker and I took one we’d found into the Biology lab and the head of the department gave us some information, a little lesson on what this thing was. I felt so blessed to be able to go through this process with the children.

“Hidden in plain sight.” Yes. So much of the world is like this as we in our “modern” culture busy ourselves along. Thank you, Grace, for reminding me every day in your blog to simply slow down & pay attention. Thank you & thanks to Earth & all her Beings, who patiently offer more than we can imagine.

when Don and I took Master Naturalist classes (over ten years ago), one of the speakers pointed out that we are far more apt to notice something in nature if/when we have a name for it … while the nameless (to us) things fade into the background

I never heard of them until you mentioned them recently. Now I know what they look like. I honestly don’t know if I ever saw any or not. Exit hole? For bugs?
