Roe V Wade    the  "supreme" court of the land.   women.  children.  human kind in these united states of america.   Quality of Life.   Love…how much can love give.  what IS love,  all the kinds of it.  and on and on and on.

i saw this on FaceBook

"If every time men had sex,  they risked death,  physical disability, social shunning, a life altering interruption of their education or career,  and the sudden life-long responsibility for another being,  i think they'd expect a choice in the matter."

and all day i thought about this.  Sex.  it's primal. and here,  i'm talking about Binary Sex where there is a sperm and an ova.   We "have sex" for a lot of reasons.   Primarily originally because it FEELS GOOD.  Because we LIKE IT.   Then from there,  we "have sex" for a variety of reasons.  To please the other that we care about,  to sooth an Other,  to "keep" an Other.  Sometimes to keep our selves from being hurt,  sometimes to

keep others from being hurt.  sometimes out of confusion.  sometimes because we are too young to  know how to refuse.  it goes on and on.    I think it's rare,  or,  not common,  by percentage,   that  we  have sex because we want to conceive   another human being and that sentence:

"…the sudden life-long responsibility for another being"

Thing is,   "having sex"  which takes so little TIME,   translates into LifeTimes.  For a Mother  for a Child

and today,   5 men and one privileged ignorant white woman RULED.   set a LAW inplace.   And  we allow this.

the pic above.   This hasn't happened before.  Usually,  there is one single
go round for the Pomegranate in one season of each year.  But…here today,   She tries again…?…..?

what is my part to play?   all i could do this evening is give her Deep Water  and Witnessing

Went to bed last night, reading Ursula LeGuin’s book, No Time To Spare, Thinking About What Matters. This book is not science fiction but a collection of essays written over the years. Daughter Shelley had given it to me at Christmas and I had read it then. After yesterday’s decision, I needed to get back to LeGuin’s wise words on a variety of subjects, needed to have some grounded sense.
I am a woman, gave birth to two women and one of my daughters, Erika, gave birth to a daughter, Rowena, who is 13, who is coming to know what it means to be a young woman.
When the decision came yesterday, we were grocery shopping and I rarely take my phone so had no idea that the decision had been made until I got home and checked email and blogs. Reading blogs, I made a comment on Dee’s blog in response to Mo’s lament of WTF is going on with the country of her birth: I wrote the following:
“Yes, WTF but not unexpected and devastatingly, more is to come:
We were grocery shopping so I did not know of the decision until I arrived home to a plethora of emails from my daughter E re protests, the ruling, Michael Moore, etc. As the mother of women and the grandmother of a 13 year old girl, my heart is crushed…
Tonight in a park in Albuquerque at 6pm, Planned Parenthood will hold a rally. I will be with them in spirit as our Covid case numbers are rising and I try not to bring any possibility of exposure to our home to protect R and frankly, myself as I’m no spring chicken!
New Mexico is a state that supports abortion so that is a positive on this very, dark day. Michael Moore says vote the Republicans out come Nov. but that Is not going to happen; still I will do all I can in getting out the vote for Democrats. and find ways to help with the protests, even if I don’t put foot to the ground.
One analysis of how to change this would be to codify Roe into law. In the link below, it appears that Massachusetts had done so.

So that was the day but as I was reading last nigh, words from LeGuin’s chapter, written in Oct. 2012, titled, “Lying It All Away” stood out so strongly: They were written about degrading the environment etc. but they definitely apply to the degradation of women that occurred yesterday.
“It appears that we’ve giving up on that long range view. That we’ve decided not to think about consequences- about cause and effect. Maybe that’s why I feel that I am in exile. I used to live in a country that had a future.”

Thank you for including the photo of your resilient pomegranate. Seeing it helped me feel grounded in this painfully turbulent time, this xenotopia. And thank you for the link to Catherine — and her link to Layli LongSoldier. The sense of Intertwined Being that is the Truth of the

How is this happening .. and why?!! What is wrong and how can we fix it .. can we fix it?!! My heart is broken .. I’m grateful for all the comments and links shared here .. all giving me hope that we can continue to hope to move towards a better future for our grandchildren. I will admit that Hope is getting harder and harder to hold on to .. every day it feels more and more like it is slipping away.

Catching up with blogs. Thanks for reading mine and I’m grateful my post was helpful. After yesterday’s devastating news, this morning I woke up feeling more of the hurt. Hurt by the power of reproduction being so misunderstood and disrespected. Good to find friends in the middle of this horrible situation.

(((Marti))) As a first generation Polish immigrant born in Brooklyn my father believed in the American dream. His mother was a tiny woman with a disabled husband, she had two sons. The birth of my Dad nearly killed her, the doctor said if she had another child it would so she had a backyard abortion in Brooklyn in the early 30’s, she died.
My mother is a Catholic, she had 5 children from 1955 to 1963, the doctors told her she could not risk having any more. The pill was invented and she took it even though the church forbade it.
I never liked how the pill made me feel, I won’t tell you how many abortions I had before I had my tubes tied at 32!
So I have some deep history with this issue. When Margaret Atwood wrote The Handmaid’s Tale back in the 80’s it seemed too far fetched…

I look at your country and think: wtf happened? it just seems incredible that this is happening in our lifetime!
even though abortion in the Netherlands is permitted under certain circumstances, it is described in our Penal Code, meaning it is illegal and forbidden for the person performing the abortion, unless it is performed as described by the law. The right to an abortion is the exception, not the rule.
I have been reading a little on the subject and to my horror have ‘discovered’ how limited the options are, even in Europe and how fragile these ‘rights’ are….if only everyone could get pregnant at random after sex, the world would be a different place
