there is no dye table here,  as Marti remembers from  N  Mex.    With Free Goats,  it would be impossible.  But i 'm hoping that the Janet Chair might somehow work…all day today it did.   They all noted it in it's new place where it needs to be so it can be moved through the day,  tracking SUN.   Noted by smelling it,  sometimes liking it,  or tasting….same with pot rim and jar…but then just went along.    The jar.   was in  the back,  under this tin house,  and i guess from 2 years ago?   Full of Oak Galls,  some moldy,  the liquid inky dark.   I bundled a,  ummm,   dress?    a cotton household cloth thing…i guess is a night dress?   I should have taken a pic.   Anyway got it wet and bundled.  Tied the string.  Stuffed it in and turned jar over and back to soak it.   Repeated a few times    during the day.  It was white.  now is brown,  that same brown as the dusty dry earth the Goats travel.  My hope is to mark it with walnut in a couple months.   a Garden dress.   camouflage .    Today,  the "weather" was/is perfect.  90 high   64 low.  i feel like Goldilocks.

NPR Morning Edition today.    segment:   The School of Needlework for Disobedient Women.    a workshop for teenagers in  embroidery,    Berea,  Kentucky.     A bright Goodness.

The School of Needlework for Disobedient Women … I would have loved this as a teenager every bit as much as I love it now … I will follow Badass Cross Stitch on Instagram and let you know if I see anything outrageously good (at a first glance it reminds me of the Tiny Pricks project)

Doesn’t take much for a dye station and I think the Janet chair is a fine place for your copper pot and jar. I do have a little table that is placed in the alcove here that i use but many times, I simply put my glass jars or pots on the ground by the iron trellis or on the patio floor.
This morning, I went to my little copper pot that I had placed on the ground next to my tomatoes, I have a little steamer that I use for a top for the pot and I took out the folded small pieces of cloth with the spent coleus leaves; these were not bundled or tied, just the leaves laid on the cloth and a few folds. The reveal showed color and markings that gave me dawn and a mountain range far in the distance. Coleus quietly and softly gives and this particular coleus surprised me because it is a very vibrant green and burgundy, Dragon Heart. Somehow, these soft colors seem so right for these days…

A dress with layers of brown, to wear the earth and trees. What could be better? Thank you for sharing about the School of Needlework for Disobedient Women.

I will have to see if I can find that NPR segment .. years and years ago I read of Berea College in Kentucky.. no one pays tuition.. I think I tried to apply but found I earned too much.. I read about it in a craft magazine.. it sounded like a great school of arts… your dye project sounds enticing! On another note.. I went to the Dakota County Fair in Farmington MN today and stayed for the Rodeo. I have never been to a Rodeo so it was on my bucket list. I loved the bulls🙀.. they have such personalities. After they throw the cowboys they run around still bucking and showing off like they know they are the real show! I am glad you have goats and that they too have such individual souls.
