on the screen tonight it looks blue,  but is not.   a pale soft grayGreen,  a  "gentle day*  green

the guy i watch on YouTube made a point to say to watch out for the potential  "stain"…purple…..maybe it's just the berries?

The anticipation of what will come is so often realized but at other times, can throw you for a loop! I love the soft gray green of the malabar cloth but had it in my mind that you would possibly get soft green but also a faint purple…
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see a dyed dress that had assorted small patches of other dyed cloth pieces stitched to it; a patchwork dress of dyed wonder! Years ago I contemplated doing something like that but the dress that I tried to die came out all splotchy, picked up color in some places, not so in other places. Probably had to do with the fabric but there was no label on it and I am not all that knowledgeable about fabric. My long lasting enthusiasm for naturally dyeing cloth has a lot to do with anticipation and often surprises but this was not the kind of surprise that I had expected! Grumbling about this experience, I took myself in hand and reminded myself of my cloth dyeing mantra: Joy in the process/journey whatever the result” even when the outcome is not what was hoped for!

The research I did on Malabar predicts light tan from leaves, and some purplish color from the berries if you use a mordant. I did not see much evidence of long lasting color. fades to tan, like most berries and even cherries. If you bundle dye over metal, maybe something. I have it here, I see flowers forming , soon I will give it a try.
I just like to see and watch the fade as well. I always chuckle.
oak, however it comes out, will stay. Tannin. Maybe dye with the berries over the oak dye, tannin fixes things.

Oh .. I can use a soft gray gentle day green.. I am truly truly full of gratitude..for simply being and being alive.. but oh this triad of Covid has its days and this feels like one of them.. it is strange to be so out of sorts with myself..my capabilities..and since I am having a strange day anyway maybe just browsing outside to see what surprises I can find..Emmaline wants to try dyeing and printing “ with everything out there…because you might know about it but I do not “ which on days like this could describe my relationship to way more than the plant world..hoe great to be given a gentle and needed shove in the right direction
    Gentle day grace
