was standing at the sink  looking out that little window which is not my usual   Looking Out window.   it looks into the old Doe Forest.    Movement in the distancc,  trees,   the squirrel.    Not where i am used to seeing himThem.   But there….branch to branch and suddenly,   there were

TWO

there were two of Them  running  spinning  flinging  all within the space of that small window screen that was like an old time TV   They chased and spun and just   PLAYED.    PLAYED.   with each other.   there was such Joy,  such Wild Abandon  all for no reason other than what it was….those moments,  of sharing the Joy of EachOther in the tree branches .   Arboreal Squirrels.  TWO of them.

I spend a lot of time watching squirrels. The really young ones chase each other as play, the older ones as an act of mating or dominance. The young ones are practicing I suppose. There will be a real fight for food this winter. No nuts. No acorns. Last year I was shoveling them off the deck.

Love the energy of squirrels! I wrote a comment under the spiderwebbed window..somehow lost it.. but had to do with a missed opportunity to look at a wild tarantula! It wandered into a group setting at potluck and I was busy getting my food out if the van… the people picked it up on a plank and gently moved it away from the party. I sure hope I get another opportunity! The lizards stay hidden too but when i am not looking they crawl up on my free standing solar panel and pee all over it!! I know they exist too!

22 years ago, when we were first becoming an “us”…we went for a walk in my neighborhood, where he stepped into the road to stop a car from running over a tarantula. He then picked up a small stick to gently encourage it on its way. I knew he was a keeper!
The lizards here poop all over our patio!

Grace~ At the old place – a tree outside of the bedroom window was a beloved playground for the squirrels. They would chase each other ’round and ’round…chattering like crazy!! They were so loud!

it is interesting to me that there is only that one…now
maybe two. So much space…a whole old Pine Oak forest
There is an abundance of acorns and pine nuts this year. I am surprised with the stress of the Intense Heat through end of summer, the Goats eat acorns all day. They are fat.
