Toyon.   Color is not true.   the berries are a vibrant orange/red.   i learned this eve they are edible.   I think of Marti.   Would they mark cloth?

the Plumcot.   Every year she has developed a curled leaf thing.    It should be fairly easy to find out what that means and how to avoid it.      And this year,  she has created a child.   that needs to be moved?

so many things like this and time goes like a blink of the eye.   This circle of seasons i want to be OF.    Of this Place.   I think those words…what does it mean?,   OF this Place?   thinking………..

There is a wonderful book, Harvesting Color by Rebecca Burgess that has a section on dyeing with Toyon. She suggests harvesting the suckers at the base of the trunk in the winter. She says that harvested Toyon should be put in water and cooked soon after harvest. It makes a golden color.

“Of”…something to consider. My dearest friend used to say ‘of’ instead of ‘with’ in reference to a pregnancy. So, it sounded like this “When I was pregnant of Nancy” (or whomever). “Of”…
Thinking and rereading my comment, I think how even the spelling is curious. It sounds more like ‘uv’ πŸ™‚

Curled tree leaves here usually mean not enough water. My poor old cherry tree has curled leaves by the end of every summer because where it’s planted gets particularly dry.

I am curious to know how the child plumcot came to be? A squirrel planting it’s seed? or a root sucker? Just from fallen fruit? Will it be true to its mother as a plumcot? Can it be dug up and moved over a bit so as next year it has space to flourish?

yes…the spelling…so aware of that with Emrie beginning to sound out words…there being NO EXPLANATION for how it often is…as in Of Uv. Here… it’s the Sight Words. She
told me the other day about her Sight Words, how she got them all right until the last one…Can. How she Knew it,
but how her mind had just gotten tired and she couldn’t
find it. So she just got a gummie instead of a Dojo Buck.
The Dojo is where you can go at the end of the week and exchange any earned bucks for stuff. i loved that she saw
it that way…that her mind was just too tired.

we water. it’s not that….tho this year the heat may
have contributed to it. She always begins so beautifully.
and the Asain Pear…not the same issues.

who knows? She had a bumper crop this year. My guess is a combo squirrel and self planted pit. Will it be true to
    it’s mother???? am not sure.
and YES. moved over a bit. YES. I vow.

Parker played Travelopoly (https://imgoingtotexas.home.blog/2021/01/17/making-a-game-of-it/) for the first time the other day … we teamed up, Parker and Nana against Griffin and PopPop … in spite of all the new-to-her words, counting the dice and then moving the playing piece, and money, all the counting of money … she hung with it for quite a while, then hit the saturation point and asked if she could stitch on her ribbon pillow, so we called it a tie and put the game away … being a Kindergartener is hard work!

I have never heard of Toyon. Interesting! Yes, the tired mind, I know that feeling. I remember learning to read as a child and I came across the word “Mother” and thought that is such a long, hard word, I will never get it. Odd how my memory includes the word I would never get. I relate to being Of a Place because I am definitely Of Maine and seeking to become more so.
