i really like pie.   it's been probably maybe 7 years since i've made one.   Part of the reason is that the Mom's No Fail Piecrust makes crust for TWO pies.   Usually,  under ordinary circumstances you only want one.   Two pies are a lot…for ordinary circumstances.   But,  also,   it takes all afternoon.   And as i look at them here,  after all is said and done,  after all afternoon,    i thought…..

so what?

an afternoon.  maybe once a month.   Why not?   and then i started wondering if i could make pies with vegetables in them.  Not dessert.   I love pie crust and stuff IN it.   ?????

not sure how this pic ended up here,  but it's ok.   It's the Cherry.   that looks pale in the above pic.   it is paler than the Apple but not really pale at all.    Am interested in how each tastes.   the Apple left to bake longer.

Jenny is sleeping over at Alyssia's tonight so they can begin at the crack of dawn.   it's a 25lb Turkey that Jenny's man is given at work each year.   i am taking Laundry.   Will do.  inbetween whatEver else.   Alyssia called on the last leg of the trip back from San Diego.   We talked to keep her focused.   minutia.   stories from her friend Chelle"s.   Their food,  Blend of Filipeno/American     What it was like for Emrie.  For Julian,  Julian who knows Chelle and her husband Chris from  babyhood.  They are family too.   Chelle"s mother,  Momsie,  couldn't come.  Covid.

it's a different year this year.

Woven into those lattice strips of crust, family, stories, memories and how certain foods simply must be on the table. Your pies look absolutely scrumptious. Yes,a savory pie would be delicious: veggies, herbs, if you have leftover turkey and with a 25 lb turkey, you might! tucked into a pie shell, maybe just a touch of gravy that would ooze out, a little, over the lattice crust as it baked, gosh, my mouth is watering as it did when I saw your pies. Enjoy your wonderful feasting. Food always tastes so much richer with family at the table…

Pumpkin is a vegetable. 🙂 But yes, pot pie, empanadas…. yum. I also like to make shepherd’s pie with lentils and other vegetables.

I’m thinking turkey and leftover veggie pie with gravy would indeed work, with lots of cranberry jelly or jam on the side
those crusts look amazing … would love to have the no-fail recipe for sure

I’d need one as a quiche. Your lattice is spectacular! I can just taste that lovely crunch. We had cherry this year with store brought fruit and they missed a pit. Maybe that’s a bit of luck like the hidden toothpick in a cake.

Your pies look great! I am sadly coming to the conclusion that pie is not going to be in my repertoire. Sam doesn’t eat fat (due to his heart condition), so no shortening, butter, etc. I have adapted my cooking quite well, but the pie crusts I try to make are seriously lacking. Even with almond flour which contains some fat. Maybe just a bad idea when there are other forms of dessert I could focus on.

I had leftover pie with yogurt for breakfast today! Sadly it was store bought.. I must practice pie crust n my Coleman over the stove oven for the next holiday! Did you bake the pies in the Camp Chef?

Just finished a shepherd’s pie made with pie crust frozen mixed veg and the meat from one extra Cornish hen cuz they only came in packs of 4. We were only 3 on thanksgiving. With enough left over garlic mashed potatoes to cover the pie .. it really turned out delicious. But looking at pictures of your pies I would take a piece over my shepherd’s pie any day.

Oh these look delicious!! We came home yesterday with left over Costco pie portions. We shared the pumpkin with a neighbor, as we don’t much care for it and he was thrilled. I had apple and J. had pecan. Mine was fair. He loved his 🙂
I’m remembering how I loved Chicken Pot Pies as a kid, the frozen kind. Good and good enough. (((hugs)))

    Gramma’s No Fail Pie Crust
    4 cups flour
    1 T sugar
    2 t salt
    1 3/4 C CRISCO
    1/2 C water
    l T Vinegar
    1 Egg
divide into 4 parts and refrigerate 1/2 hr before rolling.
the No Fail is because if it isn’t the shape to cover the
space, you can patch it whole by just pressing in scraps.
hard to over manipulate. Great for kids.

just two cans of any store cherry pie filling plopped into
    a crust.

i didn’t but using the over Inside now is good because
it warms things up instead of the heater. But the Camp
Chef would work so well. I hope you try the over
the stove oven. I know it can happen..just takes learning
    how

I make chicken pot pie regularly in the winter. I use chicken from bought rotisserie or what I cook, frozen veg and onion and celery. I make a white sauce like white gravy that my mom made. Using milk instead of water. It works great and everyone loves it. Put in dill and it seems special..
