the sensitivity….no matter how careful i am,   the page disappears.   so.   we'll see.   please know tho,  that if i am squashed by a falling tree or swept away by Wind,   Alyssia would come at some point and tell you that.   Do not be alarmed.  All is always well,  in its own way.

i want to pause here.   there was so much to say yesterday and yesterday seems long ago.   I'm not good at yesterday…why i post everyday.   But yesterday was important.   i want to learn something from it.    I'd gone to Dee's.   to be Angry.  and this,  unknown to her,   was perfectly responded to by her post the next morning of the 9th…Pattern and Outrage wordpress.  Her last sentence giving me a perfect response,  even tho at that time she'd not known i had come.  she said

Staying Power

it's how it happens sometimes.   often enough.    and i can just say it this way.   "the Universe".,  the Universe,   the Godthing,  Spirit,  shows Its Self in unmistakable ways.   Go back,  way back to what i loved that Elizabeth Gilbert said in the On Being podcast….paraphrasing:  that the Universe wants to communicate with us in a way that we can receive it, recognize it.   I have "believed" so many things over my years,  Un believed them,  believed them again  and on and on and now and again stuff  just happens that is unmistakable .   I love these words.   Staying Power.   what IS staying power?   how does it work?

so that's it for tonight.  i'm afraid this will all disappear.  and i know by tomorrow,  too much time will have passed and i won't go back.   and something Big to me would be lost.

With all that CA is facing, unrelenting rain, flooding, destruction, a memory kept nudging me but I couldn’t catch it until this morning. I was born in the central valley of CA, in Merced County in a little town called Los Banos. Banos in Spanish means baths and here is a bit of history:
“Before its founding, the land on which Los Banos is now located was part of the Yukut Native American hunting grounds. The wetlands in and around the area provided everything the native people needed, including salmon, sturgeon, and game such as elk and deer. For many years the confluence of Beer Creek, Los Banos Creek, and the San Joaquin River with its large watershed, protected the region from early Spanish exploration. As such, the Yokuts were able to live in relative seclusion until the 18th century.
In 1805 Gabriel Moraga, with his troop of Spanish Calvary from the Presidio of San Francisco came riding through the Pacheco Pass under orders from the Spanish Governor of California to explore the San Joaquin Valley. This jaunty leader and his party reached the valley floor and cantered right across the area where the City of Los Banos now stands.
From 1808 to 1833, Spanish missionaries discovered the area when they traveled over the mountains from Mission San Juan Bautista on missionary visits with the Yokut Tribes in the region. Padre Felipe Arroyo de la Cuesta on such visits discovered pools of water in the rocks of the summit of the mountains in a little creek bed that flowed down into the San Joaquin Valley. On account of these pools he named the area “Los banos”, which meant “The Baths”. Reports of these baths led to the local ranchers naming the creek “El Arroyo de Los Banos del Padre Arroyo”. In time that lengthy moniker was reduced to “Los Banos Crick”
I tell you all of this because in Nov/Dec of 1950, the central valley of CA had a massive flood, lots of destruction but very little loss of life. I remember the street in front of our home was flooded and I saw a person in a canoe, paddling down our street…the thing is that in 1950, I was only 3 yrs old. So did I really remember this or did I remember this, when I got older, from stories told of the great flood of 1950…?

of course you had a plan … and I kept thinking “no news is good news” …
and yes, the Universe … I believe things that might be considered coincidental, as in unintended, may in fact be very intentional

Thank you for the gorgeous photos of moss & fungi. I think they have much to teach us about Staying Power. And thank you for posting the photo of Talkie. I’d been worrying about her in all the turbulent weather. Somehow the sight of her is very comforting to me. And an egg!

I’ve been thinking about you a lot. Sending strength and love. It is hard to have staying power in a place with such storms.

Oh the lushness of these photos. I had enough internet last night to watch news videos of California, it upsets me to think “in this day and age” that nature still takes so many lives. So hard to comprehend, so hard to think How would I prepare. I feel so small. I shall take wisdom shared here and be grateful there is a here.

One of the truly remarkable things about the staying power, of life just going, is that, despite summers so hot nothing wants to grow, the moss and fungi always come back.

Resilience. Staying power. One foot in front of the other, my mom used to say.
The big storms have abated for now. This is not a usual winter Regular rain will resume. Left is the flooding, and the falling trees, and mud/rock slides. Now that the soil is saturated, the trees can just fall right over—top-heavy or shallow-rooted, damaged from over a decade if drought, etc. I want you to be safe, the goats to be healthy, and the land to be stable.
I hope for your comfort and safety. I wish you weren’t alone on the hill. I wish the mushrooms were magic, and that you don’t get squashed!

Talkie is crazy. in all this, she continues to sleep on that twig. ????!!!!????
during days she stays with the Herd..during the pouring rain in the Doe s Rain house with them. But nights….every
evening as dark falls she makes her way up the branch of the Morning Tree, hop hop hop up and up and up to the branch that extends Out, to the certain
    twig
    and i’m not exaggerating…it’s a twig
    and there she sleeps.
Every morning i expect to see a bloch of wet feather on the ground, but no i hear her talking to her Self as she begins any day

Chogyam Trungpa! I still have one of his books. So important to me in my late teens. Then word around town was about him fucking his acolytes so I stepped back. I think at this age though I can return to the book and take what is powerful and useful from his words. Thanks for reminding me. I think this cycle of change and uproar, starting with Washington and news and going right down to the local level where two houses right up the street will generate a shit ton of noise (one’s a tear down, the other a major reno), I find myself in need of staying power more than ever. Even more than right after trump was elected. This is surprising and dismaying. Gonna have to dig deep.
