at the  Lincoln Ave   Dollar Store parking lot.   These trees are like this all over town.   Many on the  "slide" down  to town,  Olive Hwy.   It's been about two weeks since i've been here,   don't remember anything  remarkable about them,  don't remember them blooming,   but these are

seeds

not blooms,  but thousands of seeds.   They remind me of maple seeds,  but not.

just single wing~ed.    There was an urge to take a few of them…just to photograph,  to keep.   But it would have disrupted their Life cycle….they are so viable,  so In Process.  so vibrant and alive.   I'll watch.    What happens next.

there's also that vacant lot coming up Lincoln from the Post Office.   Next to the  viaduct.   Everytime i drive past i think i want to stop.  Pull over park and go look.    i could do those things when i had Tay.   I should have then.  Old woman with dog makes sense.    Missed my chance.   Now…. old woman poking around a vacant lot by her Self….?    but urge is growing.  What all kinds of weeds are there?,  medicinal weeds.   Talking weeds.

Grace ~ do you think this is the tree? Ailanthus altissima ~ has winged seeds; also called Tree Of Heaven, Ailanthus, Copal tree, Stinking Sumac. link to one site (etsy): 👉🏻https://tinyurl.com/3mbnvdw4. I kept looking – specifically for your area, and found descriptions of this tree at CAL-IPC, although just one image. link 👉🏻 https://tinyurl.com/yc8sfmc4.
I can see so many different plants and trees in these photos. Is ita big lot, with any open areas? My wandering habits are often driven by internal questions of what’s over there? what’s that? Maybe next time you go that way, perhaps consider asking shop-keepers close by about safety or just information. Someone will know, even if that person doesn’t, maybe she/he would know another person who “knows”. Those who live/work there have the “dirt” on things most of the time. The seeker-seeking-learning questions!

Tree of heaven… not a California native plant. Very invasive!

Ash trees have similar leaves and seeds. What I read said that tree of heaven grows in zones 3-8, ash in zones 3-9, Arizona ash to zone 11. I lost the page to a southern CA ash which might be a good bet. This page https://leafyplace.com/ash-tree-types-bark-and-leaves/) didn’t say “Southern,” but it has a California ash (to zone 10) whose flowers have only two petals, which could maybe make them inconspicuous.
The phrase “Talking weeds” made me chuckle, but on a him I searched it and lo and behold, it’s not as whimsical a phrase as I thought.
Between what you say and questions you ask, I learn so much here!

CAL-IPC: Ailanthus altissima. Scroll down on this page, to photographs with caption: ” Ailanthus altissima (tree-of-heaven) fruits (immature). Photo: © 2009 Neal Kramer”. https://tinyurl.com/yc8sfmc4
Seeds on female trees are a 1-to-2-inch-long twisted samara, or wing. There is one seed per samara. The samaras are found in clusters, which often hang on the tree through winter. {also at PennStateExtension).
Some great photos of what I think the tree is, at PennStateExtension. https://tinyurl.com/mr3epj7e
So tickled that you posted these great photos, sent me on a great discovery romp looking for “what is this” ~ a healthy distraction from many must-do activities. I’ll not include here, but there is a lot of history about Copal Trees, which is another descriptor of this tree, and their uses over time til now.
