    Also, the leaves look very similar to those of Quercus engelmannii (Engelmann Oak)

    i have seen those here in the midwest but never took the time to figure out what they were. i often see them here on elm leaves.

    thank you for this link! as i wrote below i have seen them here in the midwest but never took the time to pick up the leaves and look deeply at them. now i will as i want to see the tiny bowls.
    i’ve been busy trying to beat the squirrels to the freshly fallen black walnuts which are in abundance here this year.
