Emrie Grace Jimenez  First Grade at Stream Charter School.    Based in the STEM curriculum but STREAM…with emphasis on Reading and the Arts.  Stem….Science technology engineering and mathematics.  Free K-8 charter school.   It's been created in a small shopping mall,   and just that is interesting,   the various  shops are the classrooms and more,  that i don't yet know.   All students gather in a very large playground  as they are dropped off.  MANY  MANY.  all ages,  gathered in groups of their own creation.   At an appointed hour,   their principal,   who has been  standing on the rise up in front of the Cafeteria Assembly Space blows a whistle 3 times and in a booming voice,  says  FREEZE!.    Everyone does,  teachers playground staff kids….they  freeze in place.   He booms    GOOD MORNING STREAM STUDENTS!    they respond in unison   GOOD MORNING Mr. So and So.  He then gives a synopsis of the day if different  than usual (today) after which the Music Teacher played his guitar and sang with the kids and after which the whistle blew again and ordinarily they all seperate to class groups.  There is

order

not the joyful and sometimes not joyful chaos of Emrie's  kindergarden school.     And being someone who enjoys the aesthetics of homosapiens,   i love that the Principal is a large black man.   I love that Ms. Coleman,  Emrie's teacher is tall with mid back length RED loose  hair.  I love that Mr. So and So the music teacher who "everyone loves" is a VERY LARGE man  and that the play ground staff often are grandparent aged.

this morning a student/family Assembly.   Student of the Month.    Alyssia had gotten an email.  she knew and kept it a secret from Emrie.   Kindergarden was first.   then…First Grade and the 2 first grade teachers called students to the front.

Emrie Jimenez

she at first did not respond….her teacher repeated… and she went.   Stood like a deer in headlights.    Her awared of Student of the Month from Ms. Coleman was for Kindness and Responsibility.   ….a little speach giving examples.     She returned to her seat and then,   the Student of the Month  of ALL the First Grade…over 60 students…the STREAM Student of the Month Award.  Emrie Jimenez.    TWO!!!!!!!

tonight she is still absorbing what it was.   All she can say is….I really really try.

it was a hard transition,  this new school,  their Ways,   which she didn't know anything about and she likes Knowing,   but the only way to do that was just go back everyday and find out

i  could not possibly love a human being more.

the Landscaping….everywhere….LARGE River Rock,  smallest,  size of footballs    Beauty FULL,   solid,   Grounded.   This is where she'll be till High School.

In describing Emrie’s new school ground, you speak of “beautiful… landscape, solid grounded”…and those words also apply to Emrie, all around first grader of the month who though not sure of this new adventure, puts one foot in front of the other and tries, a brave, resilient, smart, curious little girl with a big heart. Congratulations to Miss Emrie Grace Jimenez and a big hug to her, from me.
To receive the award based on kindness is no surprise. She showed this in kindergarten and has shown this in how she is on the Hill…so much to be proud of in this special little girl, so much to be proud of in how her Mama is raising her, so much to be proud of in how her Old Nana has taught her about life.
What a wonderful school for Emrie. Their philosophy of integrating the sciences with art, is full circle,so well rounded. My grandson goes to a charter school (high school) so naturally I looked up STREAM: You described the people wonderfully and their website vibrates with enthusiasm and joy. So many great photos and you can see some of the people you spoke of, the principal and the guitar playing music teacher. Here is the website to Emrie’s new school:

What a beautiful old soul in that sweet little girl. “I really really try.” And being recognized for that.
(Feedly is picking up your posts again and pics are oriented. Fingers crossed this continues. And now if this comment will just stick…)

Emrie…of the hill, of your family, of our ‘cloth people’ family – of the world. I’m so proud of her too and not at all surprised, for every day she shows us who she is and she is most wonderful.
    Congrats girl!!
(She looks like Alyssia in the pic you just posted!)
Lastly, I remember those playground FREEZE days. It’s really something that the shout out of that one word truly can immobilize so many children!
(((hugs))) to all of you! 💕

Also, thanks for the link Marti…what a wonderful peek into the school. And I meant to say, what a blessing to be at one school through to high school…where they will know and care about Emrie for years to come. I’ve often said that would have helped my daughter so.

she had said some time back that some kids in her class
pulled the teachers attention by rowdy behavior…and that
she was trying so hard to do her part but was afraid
    Ms. Coleman wouldn’t notice
    Ms. Coleman noticed.

i think the rocks do. It could have been gravel. River
Rock is not cheap. They chose it for Reason when configuring this school space…i find that meaningful

i love that you say this.
i was not sure. But i continue to think about it and what seems
to be coming through is that things are under control. There is no need for worry. There is a Plan. a Working plan
    IN PLACE
and every one knows their needed participation in that Plan, knows that they are a Crew, necessary and Real and indespensible to the Well Being of the Whole
    I think this is Good
