my brother and his youngest son, Elija 16. From Minnesota. They flew to Reno, Nevada, rented a Tesla and drove…arriving at an air bnb last night. Arrived here this morning. Stayed till around 2 then set out for the Pacific Ocean, the city of Eureka where they will stay in an air BnB on a large cannabis farm. Look for whales. drive back. Sunday. May or may not stop here. The highlight for Elija is the Tesla…driving one. His dream is to have one. Not sure about my brother, he likes everything. He's seven years younger than me. They are reading the menu options for Sub sandwiches from down at Lakeside Market that Alyssia picked up and brought. We are the same as we ever were. Same free associative conversations. I enjoyed Elija tho, like Julian, is a man of few words. Maybe all 14 and 16 year old boys are. or, a lot of them. I talk to my brother probably every month or so on phone. Him being here "in person" didn't make a huge difference….i was able to see that he is old, it's been maybe 9 years since last time in New Mex?….but it was interesting, that the in person really isn't so important. I thought of that, when we talk about each other, Us online family, that in person is different, but really, it isn't. not so as important as we might think it is or imagine it is., or tell ourselves it is. We are as Real as we were today. and in many ways, You know me more.

They look comfortable; beautiful day on the Hill, relaxing, and I like how Elija has his hand on one of the goats. You speak with your brother every month so it is easy to see how it all flowed…
I think years back when I started forming friendships with our online family. One of my sister in laws, she has many girlfriends who do lunch almost every week and go shopping together, could not understand how I could call the women I met online, friends. She felt that if I wasn’t with them in the flesh, how could they be friends…I smiled and said, friendship does not need face to face to be real, it develops over time and simply IS.LikeLike

family by chance versus family by choice … so much I could say, but won’t for now … I am truly happy for you that your brother talks with you every month
the friendships I have here in the ether are every bit as real and heartfelt as any I have ever had in flesh and blood … the difference, of course, is the ability to touch … so much can be communicated in a hugLikeLike

Nice to know they made the effort. Are they on their phones? Giana?

I feel I know them just enough through your conversations here about family. And Minnesota! Its a small world. Such a grand adventure for father and son! In person, however brief, leaves lasting impressions.

It’s good to have both. 🙂 My wandering brother is coming to visit soon. Looking forward to seeing him.
