The other day, needed to plant something but no longer have a wee garden bed, so out came my pots. Purchased a large, gorgeous pot of Greek oregano (prefer it to Italian as Greek oregano is more flavorful) and also purchased one of my most favorite herbs, English thyme; potted up both into my green pots. Now if I can just stop munching on them every time I step outside! Later in the season, I will get some basil and rosemary.
I also wanted color, our days here had been a bit dreary, gray, cold and as always in the spring here in New Mexico, very windy. Now I’ve never been all that fond of the color pink but I do like “pinks” another name for Dianthus. They remind me of miniature carnations so I bought some four packs and have them in several pots. When we lived in Texas, one year for my birthday, Rich bought me two wonderful ceramic garden pots with Kokopelli dancing all around the pots. These pots have always been by our front door and have been planted with various flowering plants or herbs. This year, for now, the larger one is filled with apricot colored pansies and the smaller one is filled with a yellow and burgundy pansy. Later in the season, I will replant them with either coleus or lemon thyme. It is a joy to sit out among all of these herbs and flowers.
We will also have some tomatoes but indoors, not in the ground. Yesterday, heirloom cherry tomato seed pods arrived for my Aerogarden. Each harvest lasts about 4 months so I am just finishing the heirloom lettuce harvest. I am amazed at how many salads we have had, almost daily, since January. I’m waiting until June to plant the cherry tomato seed pods into the Aerogarden so we can have tomatoes all summer long. It is not hands in the dirt gardening and it still takes some getting used to but for now, it is good to look forward to the coming tomato harvest.LikeLike

I have never seen an artichoke plant! I hope it produces for you!
I miss the planting and emerging of seeds.
Yesterday I drove to Kofa mountains, up the Palm Canyon Road almost to the trail head. I have hiked the trail in the past but wanted to walk up close to a lone triangle hill that from a distance looks like a huge pyramid of black rocks. It was about a mile in off the road and I crossed desert filled with flowering grasses and various cactus and bushes. My eyes were filled with such beauty and I couldnt help but think it looked perfectly landscaped! The rocks were huge boulders covered in black desert patina. I saw two Horney toad lizards, the place buzzed with bees and saw one weird bug crawling along so fast I couldn’t even get a video of it. I will forever more try to identify it. I will send a picture by email.LikeLike
