continuing.     not sure how much i want to say about this tonight.

it's late

but.    I had the sudden urge to bring down the Blanket.   to B Garden.    and i did.   Set it down there.    just this much.

took the pic.    to witness.  to mark the moment.   for what?   don't know.     but here we were.    and as i looked in the "gallery" of pics   i was startled to see       a BLOOM  of Plantain……there…..which was not there a couple days ago……??????   there in the shallow blue bowl…just between the marble and the ceramic christmas tree         breath      look.    breath more.    look.   this won't make much sense.   but as a journal page…..a HUGE journal page it needs to stand as it IS.

and  three days now,   Humming Birds.    They like the spray of the water ,   are excited by it……whiz around and sit just less than a foot away from my face  on John  Lewis,  the beloved grapefruit tree  as i hold the spray nozzle to give water to the tomato plants there,   the walking onions that don't walk……going off to drink from those Aloe  blossoms,  come back,   dance through the spray of the water.   I have never fed humming birds.   Giving a natural being Sugar….?????    Doesn't feel right?      Alyssia and i talked tonight.   What could we give them?   Why would we?   maybe the pleasure of water is enough?   But …..what about just intermittent  joy?

Ah, so this is plantain. Now I know and can watch for it, though I don’t know that I’ve seen it before.
Yes. I have considered: I feed the birds, they come and get used to this food source and then what if I don’t or stop feeding? Then what? I wonder.

We plant scarlet runner beans for the hummingbirds. They love the red blooms. I’ve gotten used to the loud buzzing sound of their wings in the garden. I see another plantain bloom, I think – to the right, very tall stalk, next to the flowers of the hens&chickens.

Since I moved my Kokopelli pots to the open center of the patio, facing the street, hummingbirds have come to visit. The pots used to be near our front door and never attracted birds. The interesting thing here is that I have no red flowers in these pots, a color that hummingbirds seem to be drawn to. The pots are square shaped and the top, larger one, contains apricot colored pansies and the smaller bottom one contains yellow and purple pansies. However, the two of the four Kokopellis that dance around the pot are a burgundy color and the other two are a tan color…maybe the hummingbirds have come to dance with my Kokopellis…!?

I’ve had hummingbirds do this when I am watering! It is magical. I do have feeders and feed them every year. They use up tremendous amounts of energy. If you taste nectar of some flowers like honeysuckle it is very sweet. Just don’t give them honey. And you don’t need red food coloring, most feeders have red on them and once they find them they know. There is always celebration when they arrive in the spring and a little sadness when they leave in the fall.

this is what makes sense to me….NO REFINED SUGAR but also…
i wouldn’t give these fruits……? isn’t there some kind of
liquid nectar to offer the hummingbirds? ??????????
but then….WHY. WHY feel the need to feed them? I think….well, to make them happy. But…they already ARE happy….

this is the good way to see it , we do not need to seduce , manipulate them to come closer to us , ( when we said but i like/love them /see them , that are just emotions )they have to follow there on way to the comming future … we let them go in love energy

I love how you say this Maria. In the past – I have fed them…but, now I don’t feel that need. I also consider how when we witness something in the natural world – like, maybe a hummingbird – all on it’s own, without our intervention…it feels that much more special, more of a sacred gift.

Walking onions. I once drove into the depth of the rural community where I live looking for the home of a gardener I met iat a farmers’ market who gave me some walking onions to plant in my garden. Gardeners are so generous. After finding her home we walked out out to her beds that were beautiful rich, loose and dark with many years of loving attention . Her onions were plentiful and very active walkers. They were not as happy in my soil which was not as fine. They did not like the hood they were transplanted to and only made a few walks. So walking onions that don’t walk. I get it.
