outside B Garden….looking In and Up

20240625_144549

inside B Garden looking Out and  Up                         Thinking.   It's called    Climate Crisis.   not      climate change.    i think about Joanna Macy.

i hesitate to say much about Fire Season.    i refer to Evacs.    not a lot.     In fire season you think about evac every day.   just quietly….it's just    there.    I'm used to it.    i think if it were just me,  a cat and a dog,   i wouldn't think much.     the Goats  make the difference.   Loading them and hooking up the trailers  takes all of us.    Jenny and her man from Chico,   Alyssia from across town.   Jeff, now that he's there can help.   and we try to be ready.

These last couple years…..we've become a little uhhhh,   complacent?     With Watch Duty,   the so great Fire App ,  more info,  so much less guess work…anxiety.     with Butte County contracting with Cal Fire.   All their Fire Science and Know How not to mention equipment,      and     Believing that  "Paradise"  won't happen again.   Fires start all the time.    Sometimes there will be 3  Alerts,   3 fires burning  "nearby"  in a day.    there's almost always one.   Updates every half hour or so until we read  Contained.    Often,   within hours.   Cal Fire is    "ON IT".        this one,  Apache Fire…Palermo,   grasslands as in for cattle grazing,   16 miles away.   Began Monday at 30 acres.  Became 673 and remained through the night.   into today   until it held at 691.     No  updates all day til this eve 7:07      691 acres 25% contained.    and that's where it stands.

SOMETHING HAPPENED HERE…i lost one pic and a couple paragraphs…so   going to cut to the chase.

Beth and i are doing Sharon Salzberg's  online 10 day live Teaching         Equanimity.     How perfect can all this be?

i was going to say some things about it here but  Inet   seems sensitive…so won't,    but she gives the images of

Not a scale that balances    but rather a    gyroscope.              Enough.   Tonight will be for sleeping.   might as well.     One more thing.     IF   we are gathering Goats,   hooking up,     I WILL VERY CLEARLY SAY THAT.       But for all the rest….,   it's just how things are       until the Rain.    October,  November?    i'll try not to talk about it much.  Because there's no point.   It's climate CRISIS    and we,   as a people ,  have no Will   to face it,  to do anything that might be done.   And so…. there  we have it.   Ok.

What a beautiful sky Grace! I’ve been down for two days, asthma and AQ. But, not awful…just not great.
I’m grateful you have a system in place, lots of support and a strong trust in the fire protection organizations. And if you notice “complacent”, then you can choose (or not) to do something different in the future.

yes…..i’ve never seen a “sky” like it before……!
yes. TRUST is such a fine fine thing…and i TRUST both.
I think so much about all the men and women who are on the ground, working these fires….over 200, this one….
it’s backbreaking, grueling work and in these temps…
i think of them…their families who wait for their return

It’s hard not to worry about you … you and the others have become like family. Thankfully you’re good at reassuring me along with the others that visit here. That sky is spectacular .. picture perfect!!

I looked up the definition of gyroscope: “device containing a rapidly spinning wheel or circulating beam of light that is used to detect the deviation of an object from its desired orientation.”
And I think, in a sense, that we who come here, are your gyroscopes, any detection of deviation, as in your telling us that you are at the “ready” stage, pricks up our ears, hairs on the back of our heads rising, hearts expanding in concern…
I, for one, found comfort in the maps and the zone codes that Nancy provided that told me that you just might be ok. The link to the article that I posted in my comment yesterday had many codes and when I saw yours, I exhaled to know that it was not one of the ones listed in the article.
One of the qualities that I most admire about you is your self sufficiency but you have also built a community here, who care about you and our part is to respond to our sense when something is wrong or deviates from the so called “norm”, even though living in fire season is your norm. Some of us cannot begin to know what it is to live with a fire season, year after year. I can say that I lived with tornado season, year after year, the five years that we lived in TN, and experienced the horror and devastation of one,so I get the preparedness, and the “matter of fact-ness” in going day by day.
It is only natural that we will worry and need to let you know that we do for we love you and yours; you who so often sign off on posts and comments with love and love…I put these words here because your dearly matter…end of sermon!

Yes, the gyroscope… The constant shifting of the center axis to maintain balance. Not to be knocked over or off course easily, but to constantly adjust, readjust, recenter, begin again.
And I’m reconsidering your use of the word ‘ready’. Not a state of high-anxiety, anxious preparation. More a what needs to be done to be ready, a checklist for the long haul of fire season. Tires, gas, supplies in the car… I hope you will not feel the need to edit or modify what you say here. We all need to see and learn this resilience in the face of crisis. Am so grateful for your unexpected rain.

i want to say more about her teaching of Gyroscope.
and i am deeply grateful for the Love
but also….and this is hard to think, want us to be
somehow at ease with the reality and so with the love…
to love with some kind of Ease that allows
    the reality of what is
? need more time to think…to process Salzberg’s teaching
