In the dark time, the glow of ripening tomatoes, to me, the essence of summer.
As fate would have it, our Aerogarden is no more, a glitch in the timing of the grow lights that could not get resolved. When I took the unit apart to try to fix per instructions, I dropped a part of it, pieces cracked and that was that. I had planted the cherry tomato seed pods and so rescued them thinking that I could plant them in a pot but the thing is, this can only be done when roots have formed and it was too early for that so they had to be discarded.
But all is not lost; I will have tomatoes because I did get a pot, some good soil and bought a cherry tomato plant that yesterday, gifted me with 3 little tomatoes, the size of a pencil eraser! It’s as if the land was waiting for me to come back and get my hands in the dirt; I had done so with some flowering plants and herbs of basil, rosemary, Greek Oregano and thyme but summer is not summer without a tomato plant, in the ground or in a pot!

Oh, look at them just going, just growing!! The taste and scent of garden grown tomatoes, fresh…nothing like it!
A million years ago, I took a photo of a withering tomato plant. It came out super cool, almost spooky looking. One of my best pics 🙂
Your photo reminded me of that moment, walking on my lunch break up the coast. A different time, but the garden remembers. xo
