  •  it's the one that lives next to me on my left.   on the bench here at the Table.   acts as a side table to hold the drawing board which holds the calendar,  sometimes the  drawing book,  and always that Life Basket we see here so often.   it lived in the spring st. house in Ann Arbor and drove with me in Fern,  the  1975   Ford Econoline van  to New Mexico.   And back.   and then back to New Mexico.   And then to California in a UHaul Truck.
  • the Threads.    are usually on the table in their own basket….just there,   to help me live.    they are not just thread   but Things to me.   They are butterflies,   flowers,   trees,  grasses of here and New Mexico,   they are the Rio Grande River,  the Rim of the World  there.    Lizards and praying mantis,  crows,  moths and human figures,   the    doings   of those human figures, and rocks and stones  and through it all,   FEELINGS   and the earth,  the earth ,  the earth upon which all those doings and feelings  play out.   They will come back to their own small basket on the Table where they can breathe.   Till Next  Time.
  • One more thing about This Time.    That day we came back,  that they insisted we must,   Jenny left work early again and we met at Home Depot.    They'd taken their  measurments   and had a piece of delux plywood cut.   Brought all the needed tools and bateries from both homes,  the fence cutters etc and in the far parkinglot DID the repair of the floor.  My daughter.   My granddaughter.   Ample and Strong.

and the Garden has died.   the days of no water,  100 plus temps.   i'm not ready to say anything more.

The threads, the way you tell of them as things. the things that told the story of New Mexico; the big cloth that you created, and how I loved the way you used the threads to bring the grasses to life on that cloth. When you started the cloth, I asked if you could put in some grasses and you did. Me, who had not ever paid all that much attention to grasses until I moved here and you taught me about blue gramma and I found it on many walks…

I want to say. The garden has not died and that there is a seed, a green flicker in the heart of it. But I won’t, because sometimes it is necessary to begin again. We must replant, restart.
And I have faith that you will Grace. You are that life force. You are that green flame .
    Stay safe dear one.

Grace….I think of you everytime I hear of something happening in your area. I look at the Cal Fire map and want to cry. For you and for my home state. Your little person isn’t so little anymore! I have 3[of 9] I get to see a lot of, so I am happy for that, and for you.

And you move forward, now with two other ample strong young women. How beautifully you have passed that torch of self sufficiency along, how gently guided they have been. They have been a gift and are gifted. No words other than, I am so sorry about the garden.πŸ’”
