my long long long time Friend     Sandy     sent me these photographs of some of the fiber figures i made ….in the early days  of them…Book Store days,  Ann Arbor Michigan       I was surprised to see them,  to know she has them.   and wondered how they might be different after all the time with Jude Hill's teachings?    i'll continue to put them here for these last few days of over 100 degrees…..until we return to the 90's for a week  and i maybe find out why i am      how    i am………   Thank you, Sandy

She brings a sense of vulnerability, but look at her legs, there is movement wanting to come and the sleeves of her arms, they will unfurl as she slowly raises her head and begins again…
You wonder about how what you have learned from Jude would affect doll making now: Way back when, I gave an answer regarding your dolls and your cloth making: You wrote of the making of your last doll. This is what I said in my comment:
“The old Shakespearean line from The Tempest, “what’s past is prologue” seems to me to be the bridge here between your dolls and your cloths. From the dolls that I have seen and the incredible doll, Little Happiness, that is my grand-children’s guardian spirit, the cloths, the colors, the symbols, in the case of Little Happiness, a tiny bell, all have echoes in your story cloths. Your dolls, at least to me, made a very direct statement. Your cloths are an evolving conversation, a conversation that presents us with your daily life and all that it encompasses.”
Your reply to my comment: grace Forrest said in reply to Marti…
    “yes…Marti….that is an important thing…
a direct statement or an evolving conversation…this
is a key, a clue. thank you for this….”

You continue to amaze me with your creations, Grace. You have shared this time and this work before and it’s just so delightful. I forget that you have had an entire creative life prior to New Mexico where I first found you. Thank you for these beautiful gifts.

Love that Sandy caught these photos from last century, what I love about being an artist is “where else can we put all the hopes and dreams and sadness and wonder?” Dana Zamecnikova 1990 when I asked her where her art comes from
