there are a lot of small neighborhood parks around town. They saw this one and decided to check it out and right there at the gate, a little Free Give Away Library.
they took one, will try to find a shingle and bring a book next time.

Yay! I’ve both donated and taken a few books from the ones around here. It is such an adventure, since you never know what you will find!

My grandchildren helped their Dad build their little free library when they were 7. They painted it to match their home and over the years, they have offered some of their drawings, colorful beads and cards at Christmas, besides many books. When they came here to New Mexico for Christmas, several years ago, we had great fun searching for little free libraries. When they came here for Thanksgiving last year, they brought some of the books that had been exchanged in their library including a treasure of a book for me, one that I had read before but did not have. The book is Ireland by Frank Delaney. For Rich, they brought a collection of western stories that as soon as they saw it in their little library, said, this book was for their Grandpa.
Here is the website for free libraries.

I love the Little Free Libraries. In our dollar-dominated culture, it is a perfect example of the “gift economy” that Robin Wall Kimmerer describes in her lovely book Service Berry. May there be more!

I do love little libraries … and that some have expanded the notion, as Marti’s grandkiddos did, not just gifting creations but also creative craft materials

I’ve left my handmade blank books in little free libraries. I have a surplus and I like visualizing the delight of the person that takes them (I hope!).

I LOVE little free libraries .. I have read so many wonderful books that I probably never would have. We even have a little free pantry near by that I’m always happy to leave canned goods now and again.
