Julian on the left.  the boys have been best friends since grade school.  through his decision to home school,  through covid.  Through and up to his 8th grade when he'd always said he'd return to public school,  which he did.  we were some worried.  He was not.  and this year,  his freshman year of high school,  here he is.   The self he has created and continues to create,  at the end of this week attending the Top Ten Awards Ceremony ,   as one of the top ten academic students  of his class.

This is her  Quenceanera,  in Hispanic cultures,  a Celebration marking a 15 year old girl's birthday into womanhood. (and we can let this sink in)

Best friends.  and it continues.

Grace, The beauty in a close friendship…priceless.

    grief and horror,
but then, this. the other reality of being 15

i am curious about her family. an old tradition, new times

Julian looks so wonderfully within himself … all of them do, in fact … their generation has so much to offer in a future where much will be needed … but for now I hope they have fun just being themselves

Long ago I wrote that Julian would be just fine, an old soul who would venture forth and shine, when he felt he was ready. He is so ready;he shines as does this friendship as does this so very dear coming of age event for the lovely young woman and Julian is a part of it.
When the world is too much with us, looking at this photo, thinking of my grandchildren, my worry is lessened for this generation soars but they also have their feet firmly on the ground, their heads and hearts knowing what matters and they will go forth, shining their lights, illuminating us all with the wonder and solidness of their beings.

Marti~ And how will they differ coming of age in this time vs coming of age in a time with less turmoil…you’ve made me wonder this.

First visit, I was concentrating on Julian…this time I look longer at her in her confident, almost sassy self. When I was that age, my ‘godmother’ loved to tell me how sassy I was. It was a compliment. 😁 The boys look rather sure of themselves in this tradition infused moment, while she is holding the reins on this day.
Such a lifting and beautiful pic ❀️

they look wonderfully confident and congratulations to you and them
Julian’s ability to choose and decide what’s best for him is mind-blowing.
[ My mind started racing and began questioning our boys’ upbringing; I think a lot of societal pressures stem from fear, not a lot of good comes from decisions based on fear…]
