Oh my lands, what an amazing photo! I could have this on my wall to look at for a long, long time! Braids…important to me…I look at this and the muscle memory comes to life. I can feel the movement, fingers laced through my own hair, through the hair of my young daughter and my bonus daughter…a million hours spent showing love through the braid.
Thank you so much for this Grace. It touches my heart so very deeply. πŸ’•

Strong hands, weaving beauty. I was told that Teresa, my Spanish Grandmother (Mother’s side) had long hair that was braided and then coiled and pinned into a bun on the back of her head. Her husband Juan, the Grandfather who I am named after as my real name is Juanita, each night would remove the pins, unwind her long braid and brush her hair that fell down to her waist. I never knew my Spanish grandparents but I can see this loving ritual in my head and heart.

This photo has inspired me for years when my hands don’t want to cooperate with braiding my hair. On the really stiff days I just twist & knot it…
