thinking all day about what i would like to try in the Contemporary Woven Boro class.  thinking about the concept of Boro…which with my limited understanding so far is a mending…a continuation of a needed cloth by merging another cloth.  so…these two things don't really fit within this context, but…hmmm.  the little goat is something i did in Beasts….as far as it got….the second pic is of a piece of cloth that caught my daughter jenny's eye at the big thrift shop in Albuquerque some time ago.  she held it, touched it, then put it back.  when she was off in another isle i put it with my items.   it was pink, for one, but also more fou fou than i am.  than i see her to be too, really, but she really liked it.  so today i tea dyed it to a kind of peach more than pink and i am wondering if these could go together somehow on a large weaving of neutral cloth to come to be a quilt, or coverlet for her when she sets out with her goat herd sometime in the near future to find a life that is hers?  what if it could?

i have been known to say ” i cannot be offended”, and also will
add to that, “i am not easily influenced”….
i look forward to your ideas. this would be an important cloth.
you might remember that i said somewhere on your blog a long time
ago that i have been promising her a quilt ever since her Big Bird
quilt disintegrated. she no longer believes it will ever happen.
    What if it did…….. ~

Love that bottom photo. It’s like a huge intricate spider web. Seems like the time might be right…

Maybe I’ve lived around “green” for too long, what with pines and all even in the winter, (which is a loosley used word in this global warming) but I love the look of your “brown” area. I do believe I’ve mentioned it before.
Anyway, I thought you all were going to live together as one big family in the North Ca or something like that? You said when she sets out to find a life that is hers?? Oops, once again Helen and her inquisitive 40 questions, but heck you should be used to it by now, whether it still bugs you or not. Ha!
I’ve always loved how you captured this goat on cloth. I can see one frolicing for real.

    h e l e n, it never bugged me. was comforting because
i am from that questioning part of the world.
Her life now is fraught with complexities…a marriage
that isn’t working, a financial commitment in conjuction
with that. it’s going to take her a while to be able
to pull it all off*. yes. Northern Cal…around Chico.
that would put her about an hour and a half away from
where her daughter and grandson would be transferred next.
Good enough. Much better than this.
I am in a really complicated spot. Have worked for the
Old Cowboy for 15 years. He is quite incapacitated by
arthritis…is literally in an L shape when he stands…
now uses a walker, can no longer drive and basically has
no one else but me. He also was a great help to me during
the end time with the crazy man i was married to (because
he liked him, not knowing a lot). but mostly, he is
totally dependant on me for pretty much everything and
also has pretty undeveloped social skills that would make
it hard to find someone to take my place. he’s 82 this
year. without realizing what it might mean, i “gave him
my word” some years ago that i would see to it that he
could stay in his own home as long as he was able. when
i said that, i was “SURE” i would never leave this place
…i love it deeply. everything about it is perfect.
and now….Surprise…..this comes up. that’s the rest
of a too long story, but yes. when i can, i will go
there to work along side her in creating a life that
she can feel real about. and offer what i have to give
to the baby boy (which i believe is good).
*unless her father will help, which he probably won’t.
would be easy for him, no hardship in the slightest.
well….i hope this explains a little. who knows how it
will all go. it is her hope tho to be gone within a year.

Wow Interesting story. But, I know about “giving your word”, an old boss of mine said that’s why she hired me, because she saw that if I give my word, I stick to it, no matter what. My Motto for life: “if it was meant to be, it will happen, and EVERYTHING happens for a reason.” So should she have to move on ahead, perhaps it’s needed so she’s more sure of being on her own without you before you enter back in the picture; then she can know she can make it on her own, but while you’re still here she won’t have to. And your staying with the old cowboy will be for a reason, if nothing more than integrity.
