in the jars: lichen that i scraped off pieces of fire wood when splitting.  i don't know if it is good for dyeing?  but we will soon know.

and, Valarianna, here are your promised gourds.  i AM slow, but become much more efficient when the weather is warmer….truly am of the lizard clan.  anyway…need to get them cushioned safely in the box and then they will be winging their way to you this week.  i am so looking forward to whatever you do with them….or, nothing will be ok too.  that's what they have been doing here for a couple years.

Cool! I kind of forgot about them!!!
I was JUST thinking about some spiral vessels or something, we’ll see what they become.
And I love lichen…. happy dyeing with it.

    no wonder. it’s been months.
the lichen…i will ask julia, yes. most of the plant
dyeing i do is just done outside in various kinds of
pots/pans. the SUN is so intense, heats it to a very
high degree during days and it all steeps and steeps,
then cooling at night to repeat and repeat. when i
have tried things indoors on the stove i get much less
    interesting results…
i’m thinking i will do better with it all this year.

Grace, I love to see your environment. You arrange symbolic items
in a creative way. Using the sun to warm the dye pot, yes, that’s a
lizard clan’s way of staying close to warm places and the earth.

this little place will change through the year till
winter comes again. i will continue to take photographs
as it goes…which makes me smile. like how we take
photographs of our children as they grow. me, it’s
out there. the round shallow bowl will be filled daily
with water soon. things come to drink. even spiders.
i think they are my favorite in that way…until i
watched, i had never though of a spider being thirsty.
the sun does amazing things here. in a day can evaporate
everything and when more water is added to the residue of
the dye substance, marks are made. i had only begun
learning about this last year. so…continuing

Late in commenting here: Picked up foliose lichen windfall last summer and dyed with it. Sent you an email with photos grace. Color of lichen dyed cloth was a soft peach.
