the entire right lower part is    off.

i think i will leave that pinned.  worked at basting both sides down as far as the bottom of  the center piece.   fooled around more with the little goat cloth.  it is just pinned.

but the BIG news is that i cut the slits for the Sun rays  as in Jude's Design Mending Tapestry Style.  am not at all sure how i feel about this but it is a done deal.  there will be three rays in each  quadrant.

it is interesting how everything seems so ify until the stitching happens that makes the pieces all One and then it is all changed.  have been watching the videos closely and can even see that there.   i watch the pieces cut, placed and think…"how on earth will that work" and then ……  it Does.  so i am counting on that occuring here too.

Wind has been intense and constant…up to 50 /60mph .  it begins to wear you down.

stitch yes, it is a thing that works. i feel this big cloth will be a big teacher. that is what is working here for me. no wind here, which is just as strange.

yes. everything i’ve learned, everything i need to learn.
and one of the things that is amazing me about it is
that there is no “tension” in ME about it. just a
steady Doing of it. doing what needs to be done in any
moment. even knowing i will have to take out all those
bottom strip bastes….is just, oh well.
and also…the sense that it will be ongoing forever.
it will get to a place where it is stable but then
over time, it will change in many ways. that is such
    a very very good feeling.

yes. wind/wind. i think of it as like the ocean, the sea.
there is that expansion contraction…like childbirth, like tide.
it won’t stop. it hits the house broadside, breaths and then
hits again. over and over and over.
    then more
there is nothing to do but listen

sounds like you have become one with this work. it is taking shape day by day and soon it will be as it should be. i like the idea of the sun’s rays surrounding the center piece. hope the wind dies down soon.

Oh grace that fire! i don’t have an open fire in my house – i used to live in houses with open fires and i miss those flames, the smell and the crackles and sparks.
Just wanted to say that magic moment when the stitching brings life to the work, i do understand that. That is why i sew things so slowly by hand. Something new is coming to being through the stitching. It can keep you working tensely away all night unable to let it go – then you shake it out, hold it up and it is complete.
How is your crow on the boro cloth?

grace –your process–well, sure sounds like you’re in the flow –no resistance –allowing the cloth to lead —i love this.
i also happen to love the sun ray slits –seems to open things up some –air things out —
    maybe something about that wind–
” a place where it is stable but then over time , it will change in many ways.” ah–life.

i’m glad that you are done weaving the big piece and can now sit and enjoy the stitching! i like very much the idea of the sun rays!! we have had little bit of snow, then ice and now it is just raining.

I love what you say about the Doing. I am getting that with the weaving and then stitching to hold all together. There is a wonderful feeling of contentment about it all – it is very satisfying.
Sorry I have been away lately. I am in awe of what you are doing – the big cloth. Heirloom.

grace, i read all the comments on the class blog and loved the story of the mallard girl. i like the idea of a pocket on the back with that in there. just a secret message to your girl. as always, i am touched by your cloth and process. glad we will continue to see it’s progress.

smile…well bless your heart then. cause it’s
    going to happen.
though….as i type that, i think too that the weather IS
changing….tho still can’t make up it’s mind to stay,
and so, interspersed with all that big cloth, will be the
big real world outside. the only thing i am inclined to
photograph as much as cloth is dirt and plants. and my
    dye experiments. so, we’re good.
