luck and whimsy?

so…a decision.   in a gesture toward luck and whimsy, i made a rainbow path.  am totally ambivalent about it….         i like that it indicates a wish for luck,  a  journey to somewhere over the rainbow.    so i like the thoughts,  but i am not at all sure about the reality of it on the cloth.

i remember some point in the Beasts Workshop when the word whimsical came up.    i love very much whimsical elements in other people's work, but remember saying that i am not much for whimsy in my own.   so i think about this.   Why not?, i am wondering.  what's my deal about whimsy?   and since this is such a personally referenced cloth (that i probably should say is the center of the Daughter Cloth)   is this the place to deal with Whimsy?    maybe it is………

so the little goat needs a tail and then there are some more stitches for the sewing down of the right and left brown mountains in the top part.  a few more stems of grass. 

there was a temptation to refine the goat some, but i ended up liking her so much as is…just the most basic shapes to indicate goatness and the funny little legs that were just selvage scraps that were sitting on the table…somehow i really like that a lot at the time and like it still, months later.

so…need to make this decision sometime today.  this cloth needs to be stitched on to the Large cloth this weekend.

    Keep it! Maybe even continue it down below the hoof and under goatgirl a little, like ending at top of where her belly would be. More red there, maybe one more little piece there, slightly wider? My 2 cents. I don’t know why I think that. Love it no matter final form.

    somehow whimsy implies a light heart. how ever it is expressed. i get that from your association with wind.

    i agree…that your sense of it is aesthetically correct,
    and i’d begun it that way and then changed it. i thought
    about why and it is because the path is FROM the goats,
    so, symbolically, i will leave it.

    well…yes. and there certainly is whimsy about, but
    i just am not a whimsy cloth maker. or
    haven’t been so far…but who knows???

    think of anything more whimsical than lizards

    if you are not a whimsy cloth maker… then who made the goat? it may not be your normal approach but its in you and it has come out. and i think everyone needs this sometimes especially when the road is a bit rough.

    well…yes. i did. the little goat was my Beast.
    and yes. goats are extremely whimsical and life at this time is
    very much constellated around goats.
    Alyssia arranged today to go look at a place to rent. the landlord
    said to give him an hour or so so he could be sure that the house
    was in good shape from previous renters…her response was…it
    doesn’t matter. we are just interested in where we can put the
    goats.

    well…if you can, i am sure you will. one of the
    criteria for the New Place is space for visitors.
    she is really something. a lot still like that goofy
    baby girl but also, quite an accomplished young woman.

    no…there is a maybe job opening near Alyssia’s base. jenny
    will take that if it turns out to be true…monday we should know.
    they will rent a place together. reconnoiter. teach Julian to
    be a goatherd. try to develop a big picture over the coming months.

    This little goat just makes me smile every time I see it. I like the rainbow path … however, to me it appears more like the tail of a kite streaming from that rising sun. Yes, I think perhaps that goat has lassoed the sun.

    this is about celebration to me. this delightful little goat is just beside herself with playfulness –she must have something to spin in the wind–i think the rainbow is perfect. exactly as it is . the goat to me is perfect. exactly as she is. her body says tail-ness to me even tho she doesn’t literally have a tale .( just realized i spelled it two ways —tail, tale)
    i didn’t do the beast class so don’t know of the whimsy conversation.
    i generally am not enamored of the word. it suggests a kind of cutesy-ness to me.
    but its just a word . i looked it up in a few dictionaries—
    my favorite–“a sudden odd notion”—no cutesy-ness in that definition.
    or in your goat. xxoo
    only joy.

    The rainbow trail was the first thing I noticed when I saw your beast cloth. I LOVE it. And I agree with Jan… it looks like goat has lassoed the sun!

    a point of view
    a guy i hung around with for a while drew me a picture
    once about
    point of view
    he drew a little something in the middle of the page
    and then all these kind of mountain tops all around
    with little eyes in each and was trying to explain
    that on each different mountain, the point of view
    of the central Thing, would be different. but it would
    just be
    the point of view

    The rainbow trail reminds me of the colorful rainbow streamers the young children in my class use during music and movement time. Maybe the little goat is dancing?!

    this little goat is still dancing with the wind & looks like it could dance right off the cloth.
    whimsy-not a word that I identify with either, but odd notions-yes, indeed!
    like your point of view story- it is what it is, no matter how you look at it. (not that rose colored glasses can’t make it easier to look at sometimes).

    was just thinking about those words that seem to be
    the signal to the end of conversations about a variety of things these days: “it is what it is”
    yes. true.
    and i also am at the same moment thinking for the last
    time today about Jude’s brother’s words: “based on events that result in change without motive”.
    and isn’t that somehow good?, the point of view story?
    every guy has left me with at least one good and useful thing to remember. for him, this was it…but it IS
    good.
    and here, so many years later is totally to the point.
    hmmmm.
    AND/TAMBIEN, as it is said in spanish, yes. that little
    goat is still dancing.
    and i guess that is my Point, in the moment…it’s ALL
    in the Mix. what will i DO with it??????? (or you)????
    (or Us)?
    it’s been a looooong time since i have felt so caught up
    in daily affairs of the world, of Things. but it is
    strong upon me in these days. so…i am watching it.
    the little Goat Cloth is all finished. it is sewn to the
    Daughter Cloth. in the morning, i will sit and look at it and write some stuff about it. then, i will fold it
    carefully and let it wait till she goes. she will take it.
    WHEN i finally get there…????….i will
    Continue with it.
    but, for now
    it is what it is.
