so,  Acey's cloth went winging it's way today.  and i was feeling a little adrift myself when i got home.  so i just sat a few minutes and watched the wall.  and remembered what i'd been thinking the other day.   was wondering about Why those particular cloths were up there on the cape cloth.   a few i know for sure,  are easy, like Jude's lizard,  the moth moon,  and most recently the Raven cloth.  but  some of the others…????????002
this one, most of all.  very much a mystery.

this one is interesting.  the print fabric strip is from a piece of        new        cotton that i found at, of all places,   Walmart.   i go to Walmart  to buy  the Old Cowboy's Cinnamon Swirl Bread.  to him, the staff of life.  he could not live without his Cinnamon Swirl.  so…sometimes i cruise through the craft section on my way to check out.  on this particular day i saw this.  for whatever reason, i was/am very attracted to it.  i studied the info on the bolt cardboard thingy….made in China.  i thought about how i felt about that, about textile factories pumping ot reams of stuff for us here, about the women who might be working there  ……..  all that,    but it appealed to me anyway.   this particular strip includes the selvage at the top.  i like it a lot.   why?

so…in looking at these,  i first of all see the small pieces of cloth themselves.  for whatever reason each appeals to me a lot.   and that is an important thing about this large cloth.  only what i love here.   but too,  i realize that all of these pieces were just kind of daydream stitching.   there was no plan…just putting two or a few scraps, fragments together.  for no reason.

thinking a lot about this.

i really like the mix of color and print and texture you have here. even if you use the pieces on something else, i really like them…something about the gray with the blue you have…wonderful!

That’s right – great colours! I prepared a nine patch yesterday, but I haven’t got a clue what to do next …your pictures gave me some ideas – so let’s see.
    Have a great day,

Something I’ve been thinking about too as I look at the random patterns that have appeared in the indigo dyeing I’ve been doing. I’ve been just folding without intention. And then about my need to look at them and create meaning.
I’m glad you thought about your purchase.

daydream stitching…isn’t that how it should always be?
i’m finding it interesting how i am drawn to solids now, more often one color at a time-i.e. blues on blues-when i have piles of prints that i’ve collected over the years. your choices are earthy and soothing, like you.

i was resistent to 9 patches for a while…but if you
make some for no reason except the peacefulness of the
stitching, and then, just put something atop….

i think it’s all just fine, the randomness, the looking
the transmission of meaning…i am just gratefull for all
    of it, however it goes.
yes…that purchase. it was so cheap. i have feelings
about it everytime i look at it…and too, think how
    Jude created textile design…

unless i am surprised again, i will have small mosaic
pieces of pattern/print somewhere on these. i don’t think
it will look at all like it does now, but really, don’t
    know.
your blues are just elegant and anything can happen with them……..
