amazing.  i looked back to last year,   this month of August,  to see what it looked like outside then.   but what i found instead was that this time last year i was working on the cloths for Wendy's kids.  and here i am again…….     .~.

001

i don't know if this will be "right".   there was no specific conversation.  just that it would be a cloth about            Leaving               a cloth about        Finishing                    so, in my mind, it's a cloth about Continuing,   like everything seems to be these days about Continuing.   about just going.  about what's next.   and  as it seems to be for me, there  really was no fore thought,  just one day i picked up the large piece of linen from the thrift shop.   spread it out.   ripped it  and had 3 pieces.    there was an urge to tea dye but it just kept NOT happening and for some reason,   this cloth needs to be white.  well, not white white,  it's a little off white, like maybe i will refer to this white as       bone.   and then i went out to the giant albatross shed thing and found the lid to the big kettle for the   Circle,  penciled it on  and as i posted the other day while Waiting,   just began setting scraps, fragments on.   then a whole lot of just         looking.    it was still flat on the doortable.  scraps came and went, returned,  moved from here to there and some of the pieces still cause me second thoughts but truth is, none want to be taken away at this point.   so this morning they are basted in place.   the  words post and lentil come to mind.  across the top, the horizontal piece which is blank.  this is doubled so that a stick can be placed through to hold it up.  the  cloth itself is in two panels.  so a child can               walk through the Circle.

it's up on the wall now.  so….we'll see.

I wonder if it’s a toran you’re thinking of….they’re Indian rather than Japanese, and drape a doorway to welcome visitors through. Yours is wonderful.

Hello! Nanette…well, i don’t know. two people had
mentioned the Japanese thingy…but i was able to google
    toran and they are beautiful….
it is a whole new idea to me, to create beauty for a
doorway to pass under…with cloth. painted things, yes,
    but thinking of cloth creations….
    THANK YOU for coming!!!

grace, just just yes! looking at it before reading your words- thinking of the rings of fire that circus animals burst through, or paper for teams as they approach the field- but bursting forward is the thought- the ta-da! or if a child walked towards & through it- going inside something warm and wonderful, a magical place that lies beyond.

yes and this place that they would go through is of their
own hard work of healing things that were laid heavy upon
them by circumstance. they work to heal.
it is a celebration of having arrived at healing.

from Jun Gifts (www.jun-gifts.com) describing and showing a lot of Norens – the
    Japanese door thingies….
    “Noren Curtan
We have a wide variety of Noren, a Japanese cloth room divider, wall hanging, doorway curtain or a window curtain. Please come have a look and see if you can find your favorite noren to give your house a Japanese touch. The word noren usually refers to split curtains hung in front of a shop. It was used to keep out the sun and dust but now since it often has the shop’s name written on it, it serves as the shop’s sign as well. However, Noren are commonly used in private homes as well (such as the ones featured in this section)as space dividers or decorations They come in many different sizes, colors and designs.”

of these somewhere during the last 2 years on spirit cloth or related…
    yes. Noren Curtain.
thank you. had you not sent this, i would have had to
    dream it all night long………
i associate noren as shop “doors”…..
    this adds more.

Grace this is so amazing…the split…a circle, that divides and rejoins…the colors and relative balance and the bone…oh The Bone…
That one word says so much to me of who you are Grace, you come forth through the process, working from the bone level – the deepest level you can get to…
    I don’t know. I’m rambling here I know. It’s just so right!

I wrote a heartfelt poetic when I first saw this post yesterday, and thought I posted it, but I guess I didn’t. I can’t recall precisely what I said, but it was something about recognition of the sacred circle, a place for children to enter safely in. In any case, it is just lovely, imbued with Grace’s graceful touch. The name of the type of curtain hanging is Noren and here are three references:

yes. noren. i like how this word sits in my mouth.
    noren.
all of it is in response to what Wendy does with her
space and the energy therein that the children
    recognize
because of what is inside them
