i'm not sure exactly what caused the crack in the This Is How It Is,  but there's a crack and a bright light shining through.    suddenly, i am re~considering a lot of things.    one of the biggest is my     Stuff.

today i gave my fiber optic Our Lady of Guadalupe to my neighbor Margie.   that was a biggie.

then, i vacuumed the futon couch and went out to the Albatros (huge shed) and brought in 4  six foot quarter rounds and put them across the length of the futon couch.   i put the nice  large dog cushion in a central place and also the two big end pillows from the couch.   plenty of lounging space for one normal and 3 midget dogs.  nice.  as nice as the couch.  tomorrow i'll bring in the denim cover i made from the clothesline and place it UNDER the 6 ft. quarter rounds until the dogs get the drift,  which might mean maybe forever….but oh well to that part.

and then,  i began looking at all the books.   actually, there are only some out of the original many.  but i'm looking at them.  thinking library book sale.

and what i am about to show you might end up being what we might consider as the heirlooms of this life, after all is said and done,  with the exception of one more book which will be Jude's.

001

Second Skin  arrived today.   it is so much more than i had even imagined it might be.       so,  these two and then Judes  when it  manifests itself.   3 books.  the heirlooms.  otherwise,  however it goes.  but these three for sure.

It is interesting to note what becomes the heirloom. India’s book about clothes certainly looks enticing!!! It reminded me of her most recent post with the beautiful cashmere coat she crafted and dyed. It’s absolutely stunning!!! She is definitely a master at her craft. Sweet dreams to you Grace and good night!

I so understand this. Not so much from creating heirlooms but from limiting the baggage that I pass on to my kids, a generation, with all the shifts and upheaval, that will have to learn to travel light through life….good night grace. Love to you

    Hi Grace,
did I get this right – Jude has written a book? Wow, I would like to buy it. I’ve seen the first book by India, but I am not particular interested in dying fabric – it is such a mess and I don’t have a garden, not even a balcony (That was comes along living in a big city). But maybe her second book might lure me into a bookshop once more before we go back home on Tuesday.Bookshops are always very dangerous …so many interesting books for the greedy reader.
But talking about getting rid of things: a month ago I gave away two big bags full of books I won’t read ever again in my life. I put them on a table in our teacher’s room – usually colleagues put cake or biscuits there, I thought that might be a nice change. Food for thought! They went fast…
    Great day for you,
    eva

Tammy…i’ve only just begun, but it’s about SOOOOO much
more than clothing. i will be probably posting on it’s
effect on my days while i’m reading it.
it is a STUNNING and very thought provoking book. i would not have blinked if it had been twice as much. the
    format is exquisite.

yes. i think about this a lot. the daughter is very
spartan in her ways, the granddaughter has a hard time
letting go of anything. son and grandson…well…who
knows…but i’d like to make things clear for them.
3 books and then they can take it from there.

yes i am. i think it’s the heat getting to me. we’ll see. if it appears they are suffering undue emotional
    trauma, ……
but things usually take three days and then they give up.
i like the denim cover too.

thinking about what to do with them in the meantime. have
always had a feeling i would get pretty old…so, will
need to get practical pretty soon. maybe.

well…, the same block….not too many have gone around
that one, so this has special meaning to me.
“miss you all..” ….tell me what exactly that means?.
is it that you miss making cloth?
    love to you,

yes. it really is. but i need to be here at the
computer. i can’t sit late at night, or early, before
dawn with just a dim glow of the sewing lamp. and i
can’t tuck all those tiny pieces of paper notes with
thoughts and the date i had the thought. and i can’t
leave Magic Diaries as an heirloom.
i’m serious about this heirloom stuff.

linda and Grace, I’ve seen several different books when you, Grace, have photographed different stacks, that I have or have had. So the “block” probably is more generational. But then again it could be the going to “Ann Arbor” in the early 70’s. (and Grace, I know you know what I mean by that, different culture then.)I still have my “moosewood” cookbook and it is VERY used. 🙂
