it all began, for me and Wendy's kids with one of the older girls looking at Spirit Cloth blog.  interestingly enough,  September of last year….~?~ give or take.  she saw the Wind Cloth that i had posted on windthread.   and here we are,   interesting again,  given the recent conversations

001
when Wendy contacted me about this curtain i had made for myself,  WITH JUDE'S FEATHERS, wondering if i might make one similar as a curtain for the children's work studio,  i mailed Jude and asked her what she thought.  could i just send my own?  she said yes.  but here we have a mixed situation, forever.   a cloth i made,  but with Jude's "mark".

and then, since there were two windows,  ……..  another Window Hanger, as the kids call them.

002

and then,  these two were chosen…again by the children.

001
do you see first, the "other Jude"?

002

so…looking at these.  and i want to talk about this some, but just for now,  looking back…..a lot learned.  in a way, it's ok because i became woven into Wendy's world through Spirit Cloth.  there is, i think MUCH of Jude in that room with the children.  and it was Circumstance that took my cloths there.  but still.

hi Grace, excuse my ignorance, but did you stitch these cloths? i particularly like 2 3 4 . love the texture of pic 2, and just love the crow and little girl by tree in pic 3. and that lizard in pic 4 is awesome, and really like the execution of all three. my brain is not functioning too good at the moment, so didn’t quite understand what you meant. anyway, really like those three cloths lots. cheerio from bumble brains. oxox

It is good I think…. Good for children to see too how adults can learn from each other.

Learn so much from each other and show respect and caring. This is good. This sounds a bit like sympathetic evolution to me.
    Aside from those thoughts…
Grace, you are amazing. These cloths already have so much story and heart. They’re so beautiful. Much of what Margaret wrote were the same things that spoke to me. Your crow made me gasp, while the girl near the tree – so soft and and serene. Thank you for sharing these.

    Hi Grace,
the curtain – actually a subtle piece of textile art/craft -is wonderful! I would love a piece like that on my window!!!
The collage with the little girl is another beautiful piece.
Have a great day … it feels a bit like autumn already. Must be exceptionally beautiful in New Mexico!

margaret…yes. a year ago, or so. i guess even more.
the lizard was in Jude’s Beast Class. the Raven one
a combination Beast and Cloth to Cloth…the bottom is
woven. the Wind and Jude’s feathers was during the time
i took the online dye class from Glennis and the OPENing
circle is a woven piece from Cloth to Cloth.
for sure, i’ve become a better photographer!

Nancy…that “girl”, actually was my representation of
my self…denim, hair all wind blown, standing here,
holding my ground no matter what. there is a Raven that
    sometimes flys over.

i don’t know what to say it feels like here…..we are
finally getting our Monsoon rain that ordinarily comes
in July. all the world here is energized by it, growing,
thinking about making seed, sending shoots and roots. i
    wonder how that will go?
that is the highest compliment, that you would actually
want it on your window…..so many people comment that they
think things are interesting or something but then add
but it’s not something i would have in my own home….
    thanks

Oh Grace, this is all just so much. I have been waiting since this morning and working all day to try to say what I feel looking at this. And it’s still too much to say in this little box! Another window hanger- I liked the first one so much when I found curtains at Goodwill (to replace ruined ones) last month that had big dots on them I thought of you…The perspective in the Lizard and Raven cloths is just so…reeling? From the ground-level vantage point of the lizard on the one, from the heights where the raven flies in the other. No wonder the children chose these, their imaginations proper to the work of really seeing them. Oh, just love all this today, and how much I love seeing Jude’s influences in your hand.

“their imaginations proper to the work of really seeing”
YES! and these are wounded children.
this is such a statement to all of us. to go forward.
to continue. sometimes against all odds. i am so humbled,
so grateful, so energized of spirit by these kids. just
    on my knees.
i really have a love of curtains. why? i love
even wondering why. just love everything about
    curtains.
    and i love you too.
will have some stuff to say about that self sustaining
thing. Rain has come here. way off season, so who
knows whether it will bring goodness or hardship. it’s
    ongoing, isn’t it, this watching.

and i also love that you said that:
“seeing Jude’s influences in your hand”
beautiful words. i hope. i honor. if my hand
leaves a trace of her, then i have accomplished something
in my effort. as i said in Diaries: Lineage.

    Hi Grace,
my little working space is tucked in a corner of my equally tiny room …that’s okay, but when the sun is shining it is getting really uncomfortable by the window – it’s blinding me! Spotting your beautiful “curtain” – I thought PERFECT just at once. I’ve got to admit that I haven’t got curtains on the windows, I don’t like them, usually they are extremely ugly.
So you inspired me thinking of a very delicate cotton (don’t know where to buy, yet) and trying to create a hopefully similar beautiful piece for my window(which isn’t really big).
Good morning from across a continent and an ocean…wow,
that makes me think that modern technology isn’t too bad at all!
    Take care,eva

Hi Grace! I love your blog and your photos!
I wonder if you’ll get this message. I’ve been looking for a way to contact Wendy for a young friend, new mom, textile artist, who yearns to be in touch with Wendy, for some personal reason…..
I wonder if you ever come this far back in your blog or if Magic will bring this message to you….
I hope you can get my email from here….. strange paths connecting us….

    hi, Elizabeth…
it’s the magic of typepad…comments are on my InBox
    thingy….
anyway…i would suggest that you or she contact Jude
who has a more longstanding connection with Wendy than
i do. Wendy contacted me about the cloths. i would
be unsure about sending out her edress…but then thinking,
it might be on her articles in HandEye???? you could
look there too…over on Jude’s sidebar at Spirit Cloth?
let me know how it goes. and Thank You for coming by
    here!
    xo
