how did this happen? i have never seen this before…a caterpillar, i think a hornworm, tomato worm, mummified, just lying quietly, all dried out but complete, under the wild datura
the grasshoppers are tired, but continuing to diligently mate.
the crickets are sounding a bit weary as well.

it is so dark here, lamps are on, at first i thought your photos were candle lit. i am really not seeing straight today. i love the laughing men behind your hand- sometimes it is all ridiculously wonderful. xox

things have pretty much shifted in the hills here – quiet trees rustling, not many bug sounds anymore, but lots of wooly bears crossing the road today making driving a challenge! curious about the dye pot –

Thank you for the view, the sunlight falling there, the empty of essence caterpillar, who likely died of Datura poisoning in a transforming hallucination (for their seeds crushed are used for that, and very, oh, very carefully). Thank you for the glass balls, butterfly, bell and incense, and for a peek into your dye pot. your world is comforting.

i just wanted, in that moment, to put the pic there…to
put what i was seeing. it happens every year, how the
Sun rises lower and so there is that startling blindingly
beautiful SHINE that travels across the room…this morning
hitting the rooster and the little pot of dry grasses with
such brilliance…like it is on fire. i took a pic of
Karen Turner’s little magical bag when the Sun struck it
in this way maybe last year???? i think so. i’ll have
to go look.
the laughing men…they are buddhist nuns at Ganden Choling Nunnery, Dharamsala, India
and yes. ridiculously wonderful.

the treasures…oh, the treasures. so many off to the
Thrift Shop this year, but these…….
the turtle is a trivit. there is a fish too. i really
can’t remember where they came from…..

well….that’s a good question. it began with some of
the powdered walnut i was given.
AGAIN AND THIS I FOR SURE KNOW TO BE TRUE
things dye differently from place to place and water to
water.
the color was not what i was wanting…and i need to be
forgiving, because i really don’t KNOW what color i am
wanting to see…
but then, being impulsive, i dumped in the small bit of
both elderberry Berries, the jar of crabapple nectar, and
then, madder root twigs. AND the tea dye liquid. so
it’s just a vat of Stuff. i think i am looking for a
rich mahogony. maybe. ???
if i get it, i will be way sad because i could never
repeat this.
it will sit on the wood stove and ferment. i am just
dropping in little scraps of everything, now and then.
this is why i like to buy cloth from those who are more
Inclined than i am………….

yes…my world was very comforting today. i think that
FINALLY
i have let go of struggling with the Lessening of Light.
…having happened regularly all my life, and in the past
i am feeling
loss
but this year, for whatever reason, i am quite ok with it.
i am even smiling….
tonight i moved my sewing lamp over by the big door table.
to see longer into the evening and earlier in the day.
as i sew now, like this, i can run outside into the darkness and it’s all somehow just ok. stuff’s ok.
