on Thursday, daughter Jenny arrived from California.  long story of goat transport.  here and then back.  too many details.  but she has come and gone.  and without a hitch!!!!  this is the first time i took a trip without going anywhere at all.  i "talked" her here and back on phone.  hours.  but she was driving the old truck that broke down big time when she moved in August.  there was fear about this trip.  but, tada  All's Well.

AND i am back to stitching.

002

the colors are wierd but i wanted the kantha of the tree to show up and this is the best i seemed able to do with the available light.  Tree is growing.  in the moment, South to North, but then, East to West will come.  learning a LOT about kantha as moving design element.  a LOT.

can you see it going through that place on the right where all
the egg shaped things are born, which would include baby moons????

WOW, looking gorgeous Grace. Your tree is growing so beautifully. I couldn’t think of a better stitch to represent a tree. Baby moons, what a lovely thought. Trees and moons together, another lovely thought. The vibrant orange at the top looks stunning. I never used to like orange, saw FAR TOO MUCH of it in the 70’s, but now I love it. Happy you had a good visit with your daughter. Why does your daughter bring her goats along? My daughter has the happiest most adorable goats. She rescues them as newborns from the slaughter house, brings them up like little babies. They adore her, and she them. AND YES she brings them to visit! They love running around my place. When they were babies they used to love sitting in front of the fire. (sorry for rambling) Love your cloth, Marg. ox

OOOOO What I wouldn’t give for a little herd of goats! Some other lifetime-too late for this one (the only one I know)-and that ORANgE gloWs! Someone email me what KANTHA is–I will be away but read it when I get back–Perfet for your waving river tree of moons to come. I was gonna turn off–gotta go to sleep soon–nearing midnight, but–had to have one more look at the dashboard. GLAD!

Grace I like that movin’ through the moons part too 🙂 It is a river of a tree, now isn’t it?! It’s so beautiful, I’d love to touch it and feel those stitches.

I didn´t know so much about kantha yet so I looked around and I found a good information at http://www.sashaworld.com/kantha/kantha.htm. Perhaps it is interesting for others too.
I love the tree which is appearing out of the orbit.

Jude uses kantha a lot in her cloths, just as a quilting
    stitch sometimes…
i got totally fascinated by it because of wanting to somehow find an essence of Wind.
i love it for that and now i am loving it for this
tree. maybe to me it is an essence stitch??? when i don’t
want anything literal, just the sense of it’s presence????
anyway,,it’s not much the way i use it.
    just equal-ish stitches on top and under …like _ _ _ _
    lines after lines of that.
if you stitch horizontally, the ripples will come out
as vertical and vice versa. you can do it so there is
just the barest amount of ripple too….it’s the thread
    tension that causes more texture.
    does that make sense?

yes, I think I know what you mean. I always tried to avoid the ripples, but I saw it at Judes cloth that it has an exciting texture, now I experiment with this.
The variations of kantha are interesting too for me.

well i must have missed that you were going to stitch a tree…or i had a brain freeze… when i first looked at it i thought river… a river running through it…but a tree is much more in keeping with your symbols. it will be exquisite. already is. what i love is that you are doing a quilting pattern over all the existing elements. that is just so great to me. congratulations…

she raises registered dairy goats. the ones she doesn’t
want for her growing milk/cheese dreams, she needs to
sell and does, to others doing the same. she delivered
some that were sold from the place in Arizona and one of
her own bucks to a woman in N. New Mex. picked up one
of her bucks she’d left behind when she moved because he
had a full dance card of “dates” to fulfill. it’s
    complicated.
    ORANGE
it complete eludes me, but i have grown FOND of orange in
this last year or so. i actually think it might be due
to Deb Lacativa’s cloth dyeing? i LOVE what she does with
the colors……..??? for many many years, i am liking
orange and certain reds now. hmmmm.

i really look forward to participating in the Goat
Thing. it will be a good life for sure.
one of her goats is claimed by me, Lucky Star, her name.
she is a very thoughtful goat. as in, thinks a lot.
but, i guess really, is also a considerate goat too.
she is being bred to my other one, the buck, TenZen, who
i named after the Dalai Lama but daughter worried that
wasn’t nice so spells it this way.

grace I am always touched by what I see here and especially when the blasted machines let me actually see the pictures
the image of a river of stitch has been in my dreams for some time now and the words “capturing the essence of wind” are after my own heart
once when I was still a darbouka player I tried to have a conversation with colleages telling that what if a drum solo pnstead of showing off speed and dexterity would try to capture the essence of a rhythm, something like the heart that beats to a dance, a specific dance
i got blank stares and rapid change of subject, and realised that that these people are not my “pack”
here, with ripples and motion, wind and winged words feels like home
and naming a goat after the Dalai Lama is love. and why i love you.

I just wanted to say “WOW” (not a very intellectual comment) as a simplfied expression for “Grace, that’s a magnificent, brilliant, fantastic cloth!!” I just shortened my admiration in a way my students do it all the time…”WOW, cool!”
