in Magic Diaries 2,  Jude talked about    Storing   cloth by stitching it together.   what is pictured here is nothing at all like the cloth she pictured,  but i was completely taken by the idea.   and then, i went back over to Southerly Post, Elizabeth's blog in Ballarat and for some reason an old post was there waiting for me.  a wooden clothes rack with fabrics drying……and those two ideas magnetized.  YES.

stitch the color houses together and just drape them on a wooden clothes rack.  easily accessable, easily alternated.  loose running stitch so that if a piece is needed, it can be easily taken out and the color house put back together without it.

so as an experiment, so i don't lose the thought, i found some browns (in all different places) that were the results of last summers dye pots.  i really had no idea that all this was there.  and there's probably even       more.  but, for now…………

003
and in looking at this,  i realized that all this was connected to the realization yesterday,  that i will need some rocks and stones on the Diaries cloth.   Isn't It All just Somethin.

i love this……. it’s really beautiful. is there a hint of rose/lt burgundy or is that just an illusion? LOVE-LY!

Sandy…well, i walked over to look at it on the wall, and
yes…in the light at this particular time of day. Earlier, not at all. we are moving toward the time of
year when Sun makes changes all day long. moving away
from the more flat light of winter months. now it feels
so much like an Arc of light…..
thanks for pointing that out, though. i had held the
earlier impression of a much more brown brown, especially of the piece on the right.

Oh here I am late in the day–to say–well, just look at you and what you grew! One scrap, and another, and two plus two + several more, and all related enough to hold on till the rack arrives. Go girl go–You never know just what it is your saying till you see it said. Good. It’s good Grace.

they DO!, don’t they…in that moment in that pic, yes.
later in the day when i looked, there was much more of
a flat brown. the light is such a Magician here. i
suppose everywhere..???? but for sure here. and even
more altitude adds to the effect of it.
i wish i had kept notes about what plants i used, in
which pots. i didn’t. part of me is resistant to that.
i don’t know why. in this moment, i find self vowing
to keep a little record of all dye efforts this season.
    we’ll see.
a further thought, i guess it’s part because i will
start with something in a pot and then just randomly
add plant material to it. so, really, i don’t know
exactly WHAT caused the color???? is this an excuse?????

I´m always fascinated, you put these pieces together in a way something very amazing is developing. How do you work? Is it a quick impulsive way or do you need time to look and replace and start again? It seemes to be perfect …

Doris…Try it! all i kept in mind is that i needed it
to be less than a yard wide and really loosly stitched
so it can be taken apart easily when i want to use a
piece or part of a piece.
i think part of what we see here is just plant dyed
    cloth LIKES itself…

But the way you arrange it makes it more than cloth itself – it is you who does it.
