ok.  i am about to attempt my first milk session with all willing does.  that might mean 6.  Yesterday, THIS came:

003f
it's a Maggiedan's hand milker.  and the counter has been cleaned with bleach.  and i searched for the little notebook that Lisa Check  (from my old online writing circle) had made me seemingly so long ago.  it will be my Milking Journal.   go see Flyinggoatfarm.com   Lisa created a Whole World.  and lives in it.

but because i am so nervous, i first made macaroni and cheese.  ate it.  and just now…took that twisted and clamped  bundle out of the walnut, un clamped, un bundled and look what we have here

Can’t wait to hear how the milking goes. Please let us know. I would be nervous too!!!!
Your cloth is loverly!!!! Can’t wait to see what else comes out of the pots. I loved your pictures yesterday of all your dye pots. They created such interesting pictures sitting there together on your round table. Besides holding the promise of beautiful cloth.

Laughing…mac and cheese takes care of a lot of issues. It is certainly good for finding that calm spot you will need.

you must remember, i came from a family where the Mother
made spagetti with a can of Campbells Tomatoe Soup. i
come from a very humble 50’s background.

not so much., the warmth, cause it’s really HOT. but
YES, the firm, soft pressure of the touch. yes. i
    very much feel that.
tomorrow and the next day should do it. 3 days. but…
more, well, i wouldn’t mind at all.
a hand on the back is something so very good.
    Love…..

We had really limited food choices when I grew up so I get that… When we came down from Alaska we thought fresh milk and the fresh fruits and vegetables were the most, the very most incredible thing… Well except for blueberries, domestic blueberries tasted weird for a long time.

i don’t really know why my Mother cooked as she did. it
is my guess that if it came in a can with a brand name,
it was “better”. so…always Heinze ketchup. never the
other brand…oh, so substandard, the other brand.
this is a really great and interesting thought…why
was it like it was? a salad was iceberg lettuce (which
i STILL am addicted to) with Miracle Whip. we lived
on a really GREAT chunk of land. lots of garden space.
    she grew alyssum and geraniums.

i just spent the last couple hours out there sitting
with them. it is my favorite time, maybe theirs too.
evening. my old friend Sarah called it the Women’s Time
    of Day.
here i am now inside at this computer, stinking of goats.
But to me, it’s a kind of perfume.
sitting there, in the second pen, the Bitch pen, Ona and
Onday were very much present. Ona, expecially likes
spine massage…just finger pressing…down her neck
from her horn place, all along her spine to a whisk of
energy off her tail…that cleansing i learned a long time
ago from Lily Crowheart. she would go away and then come
back for more. Onday too, but she likes her face touched.
likes her face massaged…from her mouth corners up, again and again. in between, their babies came and also little
Mercy, a lot. who i held on my lap for a while but who
then just came and stayed after that. of her own volition.
One’s own Volition is important. With goats, too.

Grace we are all with you, we have your back as they say! Breathe, meditate so they don’t feel your nerves. They surely know by now that you are always there for them and their goatly needs, they seem to be a quick study. I am loving your dyed cloth – isn’t it magical what comes out of these pots? I have never used anything but tea dying but I love seeing how others do it and I have stuff from Deb L, Glennis, Ro Bruhn. Hugs (( ))

funny food thread… the cloth is so beautiful and I love the comment that it’ll be watching over you and the does. So, what did I learn today? Carbs are good and hair-brushing, too!

Well, I didn’t get to read this yesterday…but I love the cloth and it makes me miss the walnut tree (neighbor’s) even more and I think I’ll try a bit more dying…your results are inspiring. And I am sure did well…with the goats…with the support of Kaite (and the rest), the kind words and Deb’s pasta laughter ~ what could go wrong??!!! But what I really thought that you have been led to this moment and have been preparing for it. With all of the caretaking you’ve been doing, the feeding, the watering and moving to and fro, the birthing and your calm presence…a trusting bond is already there. You will be (were) fine, I’m sure. Now on to the next post I’ve missed…
