i realized how many eyes i live amidst…these are just a few that watch me
and when i was working to get to a face for this Grieving cloth, i just kept trying . and ended up with this little pile, which now go in the eye basket.

What a little treasure trove. That will be a good basket to explore in.
The pictures – really nice. We are attracted to the human face – particularly the eyes. In your last post, you said you were looking for a generic face: is there such a thing? Just thinking each face, has its own unique look. Maybe you were looking for a universal face – one that was open to all people.

Hey, Janet….thank you for coming by.
by generic, i think what i mean is uhhhhh, Open. i wanted the
expression it held to be Open…not easily defined to one thing
or another…
and also i keep trying to draw a face that does not seem a certain
age in life…just a face. for me, this is very allusive

I have the same little basket – mine holds tiny, polished stones, pill-sized from a favorite little cave/beach in Greece and tiny piece of lace and a shell.

I love this little group of eyes. I’m glad they will be able to peep out and see through the cracks in the basket. They are amazing, did you draw them on? Your cloth, she makes me think of Kestrel the young girl out of The Wind Singer. There is a determination there.

M…thank you! for coming here…i don’t know the Wind
Singer…but looked it up and is it from The Wind On Fire
Trilogy?
Kestrel…there is a Kestrel that glides over the pasture
next to me…so beautiful, her….
and i want to thank you again, so, am so glad you appeared here, thank you again for that idea of giving Jude’s
fathers words to my own father. How amazing that was/is.
i am still mesmerized by it…
and yes. Determination. very much.

How kind Grace, I don’t think I have mesmerized anyone before! 😉 It is a pleasure to meet/read you. I live in Scotland so our time frames are a bit out of kilter- I may take a bit longer to comment. I love the way Jude muses through her work and now coming to you too I see the same thing. Thoughtfulness and listening to instinct and really caring about things. I want to start making in some way too, but I need to find my own path. I do find it difficult to start though.
Yes that’s the book, the first from the trilogy. I read them to my children years ago but they made an impression. They are about rebellion against a system that you think is wrong and destruction of a way of life and then rebirth and also valuing everyone for their own different talents and acceptance of what you cannot change. Powerful stuff. I will need to read them again I think.

Scotland…ahhhh, a magic land.
i did some things before Spirit Cloth but with coming there, with learning from Jude, i have found a Place
where there is no Ending….and beyond even that, a Place
where what i make is Of How I Choose to Live…it’s all
One. i hope you stay with Jude’s teachings if they
make sense to you…because it will just come upon you
and continue from there.
The mesmerizing…your suggestion could be the cornerstone
for Exercises in how to come to terms with one’s parents
when you “can’t”. my father would NEVER have been able
to say those things. his whole experience of life as a
human being would not have allowed him to be able to say
those things. he has been dead for a long time. i am
on the brink of OLD myself, so am an OLD daughter. he, a
long dead Father. but in doing this…giving him the words, like a script, as you suggested, the result was
stunning. not so much anymore for me and him, but for HIM,
what could his life been like if he had been able to say
this kind of thing…..Think this kind of thing? I wish
it FOR him. he never allowed himself that kind of
vulnerability. i think his Fear must have been Big.
My granddaughter, 24yrs loves Trilogies. I’ll tell her
and she can then tell me what she reads.
maybe…i might read them….reading is hard now…so much
to do in a day.
again…Thank You for coming here. You are welcome, any
time at all.

have been quiet for a while attempting to integrate the ideas and insights on these blogs–yours and jude’s. sometimes i don’t understand what is being said. sometimes i do. it doesn’t seem to matter one way or the other as i know somewhere it’s ‘takin’. your basket of eyes made me feel better, though, and helped me see it’s o.k. just to look.

Hello again Grace and thank you for your lovely warm welcome and also for explaining why that was so significant about your father. A different time for him, with different rules and expectations. So many things… in a mix, changing outcomes. I’m so glad you have a cornerstone.
Wonderful to have a kestrel with you. Yesterday I had 12 magpies in the big sycamore tree outside our kitchen window. I have never seen so many together before. That is too many even for the rhyme… ‘one for sorrow, two for joy’ etc which goes up to ten only. Perhaps I should start at the beginning again and get to two for joy? a convenient place 🙂 There was also one crow and the magpies were not happy about that crow who was encouraged to leave. The one pigeon was allowed to stay.
If I remember right ‘the wind singer’ is a quick read and hard to put down. xx
I am trying to decide which of Jude’s classes to take???

i love the moment out your kitchen window…that would
be a beautiful cloth…the pigeon allowed to stay….
i have no idea about which class. i would ask her
directly…tell her what you have done in the past, maybe
what you are thinking you want to do…like…story cloths, clothing, large things, small….just email her.
i have taken ALL of the workshops and classes and would
not be able to decide which i loved more…, All.
let me know what you decide. i’ll be interested.

yes. i spend a lot of time just looking. and often i don’t know if i understand where Jude is actually coming from but i know it applies in my own way, so just go
with that and then just around the corner, so much becomes clear. and what i put here are thoughts/feelings/experience that are i guess often kind
of disconnected and a lot of times when i reread something
i think….jeez, that was an odd disjointed thought or
sentence/paragraph, but mostly i just need to get stuff
down before i lose it….again…like a journaling thing.
Anyway, i’m glad to see you here today and glad you like
the eye basket. i’m thinking of odd ways to use them, like maybe in a woven strip cloth i made in Cloth to Cloth or Contemporary Woven Boro, i can’t remember now.
and back to just ok to look…sometimes i feel like just
shutting up and only looking for a chunk of time. but
then, you don’t have your blog yet…..
xo
