so in the What If Diaries of Jude Hill's Spirit Cloth, we are considering White.  and at some point i said in a comment, i don't do white.  not White.  bone, eggshell, tea softened white, …but not White.  and then i remembered the Daughter Cloth.  All her life she wanted me to make her a quilt.  thinking that i "sew" so Why didn't i make her a quilt.  not distinguishing between sewing and being a quilter.  so in the same way i said the other day "I don't do White", i always said, "I don't quilt".  That said…she was leaving New Mexico for California.  With her Goats.  for the most part, these same Goats that i live with now.  It's a long story and it's Her story so i can't really tell it.  but she went and it didn't work and we brought the Goats back.  but before she left, i made her a quilt.  i made it Cloth to Cloth way.  Jude showed us.  It was made of all Thrift Shop recycle.  some very very used What Jude identified as good household cloth.  torn into strips.  woven.  the center, was a common pretty thing that Deanna knows the name of.  so here are some of the pics of that process that took from February to May, 2011.

this is Jenny, my daughter and her still a puppy Anatolian Shepard, livestock guardian dog, Kadir. he isn't even 6 months old in this pic.  the neighbor in California shot him.  said he felt threatened.

001
to weave the strips and attach them to the ground cloth i needed a ladder.

for all the woven part,  the stitch i used was invisible baste.  less than a 1/4" apart.  it held up in the laundromat washer just fine.

002
and interestingly enough, this morning when looking for these Daughter Cloth pics…lo and behold, this.  the one and the same little woven cloth that Jude made in class.

White on white = invisible? Just thought I’d try even though you said there was a problem with comments here. The comment box came up for me.

yes. Kadir. Jude was going to bring him an ancestor
collar from Turkey when she went on her trip.
but before that, his short life had ended.

Dee…reading your words, i’m knowing that at some point
there will be continuation with it. to mark the
Continuing, how that went…with the timeshadowlightlossreturnwaiting and maybe Just Going again. in the meantime, we live.

I am so struck by the killing of the dog, too… good lord. Is it that much of the Wild West out there?!! Was your neighbor nuts? The dog untrained and vicious? (no need to answer – if going/living dictates… and besides I kinda like the way that one snippet of a whole story is rattling around in my head)

I focused on the Daughter rather than the cloth. She looks like you look like her…
And, Dee, I live in the Wild, Wild Northeast, where a farmer shot and killed two Bernese Mt dogs who went on a Jaunt for the first time in their lives when the wind blew over a part of the fence.

Anatolian Shepards are bred, have been bread for centuries as livestock guardian dogs. Their Instinct to keep their
herd safe is so fine tuned by nature. if they come from
pure bloodlines, it is automatic. they live with their
herd. they bond with their human and then are care-fully educated by that human about how to be with other human beings. if they are introduced in a very care-full manner, they accept all humans introduced by Their human.
others, there is a very specific response, a very constantly reliable calibrated response. if their herd is approached from a distance, they cautiously move toward
the stranger, human or otherwise. silently, but somehow
the herd is instantly aware and gathers quietly. if the
Other continues to approach there is a warning bark. next some warning barks. next growl/bark. next
attack. that’s what they are for.
Jenny and i bought him as a tiny pup from a breeder. His grandfather was and maybe is? still in Turkey.
she got him after two neighbor german shepards attacked her goats in the night, twice, killing one newborn and
ripping Snowbunny who is the Matriarch Doe pretty much
to shreds. (she’s out here. the one that the older she
gets the more she is looking like a large Rodent?) this
took place here in New Mexico. Kadir was killed after
her move to California. he was in Jenny’s fenced area.
Who knows what the neighbor was thinking.
but i should say that in rural areas, where there is livestock being threatened by dogs, the very accepted
solution for that is to shoot them.

just love your little frisky cloth goat, just too cute!
what are those things that look like paper potato balloons, round jude’s little cloth?
i have negative feelings about the religious connotations re the name altar cloth but that is just me and i can rename mine when the time comes 😉
and i am feeling so sad about jenny’s dog, you all must have been devastated
and lastly …i have been stitching ALL White, you will probably hate it, but that is ok! xoxo
