i set the dictionary on the floor to refill the coffee cup and when i came back,  this.

IMG_7121f

this one had actually crawled to this spot maybe 3 days ago.  it is in the exact Center of the most high traffic area of the house….traveled across many time daily by 2 dogs, a cat and human, once, two humans.  in the first hours, i scooted h/ir over to a more quite floor tile near the wood stove, but no…back again.  scooted again.  back again.  so…ok.  and somehow everyone managed to walk around h/ir.  and there s/he lies in this moment, slowly just falling apart of h/ir own accord.

and this will be a Cloth for the Sandhill Cranes.  for Migration.  Especially for # 59905468 who traveled 51,100 miles.  and i think about the Purpose of Sandhill cranes.    they are not critical food sources for predators.   they are not generally hunted by human beings.  i am thinking about their purpose.   the purpose of this really massive migration.    where i grew up in Michigan, my dad used to take us to Waterloo Recreation area to watch their Arrival in the Spring.   i was absolutely

stunned

my first year in N. Mex.  when driving, i heard a sound.  my whole body responded to that sound.  it was their distinctive call.  they have something very singular about their skeletal system, i don't remember, but it is found maybe in only them?  or maybe very few birds?  When i go to the Festival of the Cranes this year at Bosque del Apache,  i will be sure to go to the exhibit that has the skeletan and remember what the Interpreter tells me.    i'll come back here and tell you.  but,  how amazing.  i had left their spring nesting grounds and come to the far end of their migratory passage here in the south central Rio Grande valley.    but back to the question.  what is their Purpose?  Raptors and Game Birds,  well…yes.  But these cranes?

and i started the Judy Martin Dress which really isn't going to be that.   i don't know what it is.  a jumper.  maybe i'll jump.  Julie mentioned skipping.  ????  don't know.  but it has begun.

and an Update on the little boy:

Yvette…Nogal is the spanish word for Walnut.   which is his color.   in certain light.  today, he cried only half a day on and off.  Today, his crying was because he wants to nurse.   and that somehow makes it better for me to listen to.  Because he had become too big and too rough to continue nursing.  and he was demanding.  Lucky Star had a very hard time limiting him.  he was becoming more than she could handle.  Rough.  he had at the same time become able to impregnate her, his sister, his Aunt and his cousin.  if any of them had come into heat, he would have done his business.  so…the crying.  The other Bucks,  Sunny Ray, Tenzen and old Gideon are really very kind and gentle.  Way more than i had imagined they would be.   So…although in this moment as i write this i can hear him,  his warblly whaaa,  tomorrow maybe he will have forgotten some, the taste of mother's milk.  for sure, in time he will.

I hear them, the ole guys, whispering to the young ‘un…”time to give it up, son, you’re one of us now.” The way the Prince whispered to Bambi.

PS. The two things I love most among things are 1)red chairs and 2)red shoes. That sure is a beauty there.

Love to you, the crickets, the dress, and to little Nogal and all….I believe I’m headed for another big sleep. Did you see the full moon? Did you howl? We are overcast///,aybe tomorrow.

love the cloth. absolutely love it. already it says so much–and that strip of blue, something about it is just about the most pleasing combination i’ve seen in ages.
and tell me how you’ll make the dress? is the top something you had? or are you making it up as you go. i ask because i have wanted to make a jumper too but unclear as how to proceed.

This cloth is perfect with that movement across and the blue makes my think of the way up currents.
When the cranes fly over us (same ones or different route different birds?) their sound is very loud, but you won’t see them unless you look waaaaaay up – they appear tiny. It’s amazing the sound travels so far down to us because I am always surprised at how high in the sky they are flying.
    The festival sounds wonderful.

Yes….her eyes…YOUR beautiful eyes Grace, and that wisp of blue in the cloth…oh dear cricket whose time has come, who knew it and chose the site with such determination, knowing something about her/is place we can not know, being merely human.
The Internet has finally refreshed itself and I was just able to mount Windthread, Spirit Cloth, and Myth & Moor back up on tabs.
All’s well, but that in this overcast New York City night I have no full moon view. I can bear that. I can feel it. It might be best that the hunters moon hides behind a mist. The ‘hunters’ here need no encouragement.

the red chair is the childhood chair of Alz. B. we used
to take it outside a lot for gardening. she’d sit on it
and pull weeds. her son gave it to me once she had
left the house. and it’s funny, cause you know i do not
love Red., but this Red chair is just fine here. just
    fine.

the cloth to me is such an odd color for me to work with.
but there is No Question that it is what it is….the blue
strip of sky is blackbean dyed. i may or may not leave it. or, may add dyed skrim to it?
the Dress. i was going to do that today, but decided to
go see Alz B. so tomorrow. i’ll post pics so i can remember what i did. i’m just making it up…based on the confidence i found in Jude’s Cloth to Cloth.

the Festival of the Cranes IS wonderful. in many ways.
it is in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of nothing.
and suddenly, you are There, where thousands of migratory birds have come for eons. it is …..i can never find
words for what it is and as i am typing here, tears come.
and i feel a tingling all over the front of my face just
thinking of how it is there.
in a certain way, it is very plain. but in another way
it is maybe the most Sacred Thing i have ever witnessed.
and one of the things that is so beautiful is that so many people come. from all over the planet, all the bird people and how there is this pervasive LOVE for the birds for their lives, for their gift to humankind. on the
weekend days of the Festival, there are many people and it is always amazing to me that Everyone is Happy. there is this amazing feeling of Happiness. I’ll try to take some
    pics.
