i woke this morning in one of those  uhhh,  particularly acute sensory modes.  i sat.  watching the Light come.  i Loved my house.   and i thought about how if maybe a photojournalist was wandering america doing a "piece" about how people love their houses,  it might not occur to him to stop here.   from the general area,  s/he might not imagine that someone would Love their house.  so s/he would miss a story of great great Love.  i love my house more than i have loved any lover.  and i love it most early in any day,  when the dawn reveals the beauty of it to me…over and over and over.  i never tire of it.   and looking today,  because the curtains are still off as i am waiting for the UPS delivery of the Miracle Mop to wash the ceiling,  it was inordinately beautiful.  the naked windows.

and all tangled in this love,  i suddenly understood things about this Purpose Less Ness thing.  and was lost in thinking about it when i was jarred from that sacred space by a

KNOCK on the door.   Whaaa  and EEEEEEEEEEEEEE  someone was actually knocking on the DOOR and it wasn't just barely light….and it was my brother's friend from Minnesota who winters in Mexico every year and has in the past stopped here on his way through.  he is a very good person and it was ok,  but he does have the phone number…..   anyway….my reverie was ended and i spent the next 4 hours

talking.

and i realized, when he left at almost noon, that Purpose Less Ness takes time.

trying a variety of things at hand,  this will work for the time being.  there had been a hook latch that afforded enough space to stick your hand in and un do.  this S hook pulls it too tight.   ok.  Now,  it will need to be how it's done here in New Mexico.  if you arrive at someone's gate and they are not expecting you,  you honk your horn.  or, if your horn doesn't work,  you yell their name.  if no one comes,  you go away.  so half the day was gone.

and i wanted to put more pics here,  about Purpose Less Ness.  but it's taking beyond forever for them to download and  it's not the way i want to spend these final moments of light of This Day.

so, am giving up.  Maybe to try again tomorrow.  Maybe not.

this morning at 6AM the sliver of this waning moon was high above the ancient hemlocks. Cats, dogs and birds are being fed by my two dear friends as I type thinking about your beautiful home…the rest of today will be about planting dafodils, raking and bagging another wheelbarrow full of black walnuts (I’m bringing some home and hope to send you a small package for dye, and one for eating,,,they are DE-lisc-ious!)…later we roast a marinated meat, bake some squash and eat. Eating is one of our favorite chores :-)))

This entry, 10/26, brings to me the same kind of wild love you express for your home.
And I have strong feelings about how liberating it would be to live without any shades, blinds, curtains – everything open, nothing covered up.

I recently had a conversation with some co-workers. One of them was commenting that people never just stop by and she was wondering why (she just moved from another area). The others, myself included, told her that this isn’t something that really happens here. It’s interesting how communities are different. One of the reasons I love my home is the way the light moves through it. Waiting for dawn right now, it’s raining so it will be moody.

The S hook is good. I’d rather the unforeseen honk or holler from the road than tap at my door.

yes. different part of the world. i remember getting
used to that. for a long time, not understanding. where
i “came from”, it would have been considered rude to
park out front and honk. …midwest…
but here, it is rude to go directly to the door and
knock. the “maniac” taught me the etiquette here. you
“announce your presence” and then wait. and for instance
on Native land, you might wait a very long time. just
“out there”. it might take them a long time to decide
about you. but around here, you just wait. and someone
then comes and tells you to “get down”. i loved that
expression. and trying to figure it out, we decided it
had to come from when the visitors arrived by horse.
and it’s a thing that still lingers here. from a time when many people didn’t have phones, too and were isolated, rural. not much used to Unexpected. plus,
you can see people coming from a long distance here. hear them pull up. i can identify pretty much all my neighbors
by the sound of their vehicles and how they drive. can
tell when it’s someone “not from here”. and then, there
are always dogs. That has changed a lot this year. With
Tulip totally deaf now and quite demented, she no longer
leads the charge to the gate. and then too, there’s no
one really to lead since both her children died this
summer. Chinche, the “normal” dog also seems to be not
    hearing so much.

yeah. it’s good except for when i’m knowing someone is
coming..then it’s nice for them to just let themselves
in so i don’t have to listen for them?…so…i guess
will re install the hook for those times. have both.

GOOD to receive word from the land of ancient hemlocks.
    ahhh, walnuts!!!!
and eating IS a wonderful chore, isn’t it. that’s
one of the things that has returned with the Purpose Less
    Ness.
so Great that you were able to come here for a little bit.
will look forward to you returning home, tho i love the
    thought of you being There……

i actually Can have naked windows, but when it’s hot,
curtains keep it a little cooler, provide shade. and
when it’s cold, they help a little to hold the heat in.
    it’s always something, yes?
but for these inbetween times, so wonderful to just
    have them like this

I love this and I know this. These feelings. I like these social guidelines of New Mexico. We don’t have a doorbell and knocks are hard to hear and that is puzzling to some.
Love to you and the light in your house, Grace. This post had lifted me up today even though I am a few days late reading it.

the dog would bark and so warn me/us whenever there is someone at the gate and so we know to go and have a look; there is a bell by the gate and some spot it, others don’t; anyone who knows us knows they can just wander into the garden and know the dog’s okay (although these days he’s not well as you know) I love the fact that people do drop by unannounced
I love your house too, Grace, the light is amazing as well; isn’t it just something that we can love a place however humble it may appear as long as it makes us feel ‘at home’

I love this post and your house and the way you love your house and also your solitude. So much comes through the words. I also like the way you show us with two pictures how the light changes the space. I am rarely up in those very quiet hours, but invariably love them when I am…. I am mixed about people dropping by. Kinda wish it were more the norm, but almost never want to spend time talking — so yes, being an introvert takes time, too.

i love all the places i have lived. but i love this one the most. because it came from NOTHING. and it’s funny, as
in tender, that anyone who has come here and known my houses before, sees the Same House. different, but the Same.
it’s the Diorama. and here, i have been able to make it
    totally mine.
i wouldn’t mind company…for a little while. for the time we exchange “real” (and i acknowledge that’s my Judement) stuff. But usually, when people just stop by it’s because they are at loose ends, or have “time to kill”.

I love your house. This is how I see it; It’s all juicy and real and so…YOU…inside. Your cloth isn’t decoration – it is substance and energy. It fleshes out the home’s structure and protective skin.
