so it was a WorkAwayDay that lasted longer than it might have and then it was Goat Things and then

the wood guy, Beloved Evan,  brought the second cord of the year….more of the alligator juniper and look how beautifully SIZED it is…so probably very little splitting necessary…tra la.  and

THEN

in the local newspaper that comes out once weekly and usually just documents local petty crime,  there was THIS!!!   A couple who train the mustangs and burros for the Bureau of Land Management.   This Mustang Adoption Program has been in place for many years as an effort to accomodate wild herds in the state.  Horses can be adopted by anyone with suitable environment for $125.   they are often more than people bargain for and this program works with the Bureau to reduce the incidents of return.   Anyway.  they are Relocated from Norther New Mex to this new place just FOUR MILES from me,  and are open to visitors any Sunday Afternoon.   they presently have  34 wild born mustangs and are expecting 50 additional soon.   they want to encourage local people to volunteer to learn their training techniques and help with the taming of the animals.  So.

if this weren't enough, but then, i read….Patricia, who has a PhD in behavioral sciences and has written the book "How to Train A ______________"  is quoted to say:  " The training technology we use is applicable to all animals"….

so i phone them up.  leave message.  they return call and i have a really great conversation with her about GOATS,  and will go there this next Sunday afternoon.

then i unloaded the Goat feed from the truck,  started the fire,  ate food and it's the end of this day.

i love the possibility of people who are truly interested
in the EXCHANGE between humans and animals.
i knew she was ok when she laughed hard at my saying that
i knew the Goats ALREADY KNOW, it’s just me, that’s always
    so unsure.
and her final question, just as we were ending the conversation…she said well, her question that rose up
was…”What’s a mother doing with her daughter’s goats for
going on 2 years?” i told her i have no answer to that.
    she chuckled again.
This is going to be good.

watching a wonderful reflection of sunrise on snow..on suburban delaware snow..and getting shivers of anticipation ..wild mustangs, zebras..and conversation that promises much…so very glad for you
trying to imagine the smell of alligator juniper burning..i have just finished the last of our old oak from our now gone wood pile…part of the move not to order more..i made this last as long as possible.. …
mainly just happy imagining you and the experiences that await you..looking at the colors of your woodpile, the colors of the mustang picture..then going back to your cloth thought..stowing them away in my head..i will be thinking of you and the colors of your world all day…
( and quite happily..not just because i am going to go shovel the driveway..long and very white )
may your day be equally full of smiles

Well how fab is all this! Wild, wild horses, oh. The back cover of Patti Smith’s debut album (titled ‘Horses’) ‘All wisdom can be found between the eyes of a horse’ the Qu’ran. Epona, from where comes the word pony. Connections and connotations. I am so looking forward to your adventures with the wild mustangs. Gee up!

Well, it is the year of the Horse! This is just a splendid development. Can’t wait to hear about your learning adventure. Also, when I look at the horse pic, I see a basket on that dear face, under the eye…or maybe tree rings. Doe anyone else see that?
