i was prepared, better,  this morning.   I'd washed this robe but it had still been hanging on the clothesline till last night.  Brought it in.  I made it from an old wonderful wool blanket in Jude's Contemporary Boro 2….totally following her directions for a rectangle based garment.  It could not have been more perfect.   As she taught us,  we made the measurements according to our own bodies.   The sleeves are the exact length to be warm but not fall into the dishwater or the burner on the stove.   The body is loose and comfortable but shelters for warmth.  I Could Not Love It More and this morning it was a welcome old friend.

so sitting in the morning chair in my Friend  with the little strange FishBird i put on it  of Integrated Applique …Jude again….i thought about Winter.  Thought about Wool.  How just a couple weeks ago, the thought of wearing wool would not have been possible but this morning was necessary.   and i thought W for winter, for wool and then it went on.  For winter, for wool, wood and woodstove.  For want and warmth while wandering in wonder of What and Why.  For weakness and the wherewithall to watch and witness.  For Winter, and waiting and writing words.

i fooled around with making curtains

upon which i will invisible baste my 4 most favorite Maria Cloths.  First, to tea dye the curtains.  Too white.  They are light weight but that will be ok.  I will need to put up the dreaded plastic anyway and  they will make that  beautiful and there can be diffused Light.

i never finished extending these.

there, in plain sight was Barbara's broken off scur today.  It's completely hollow.  May or may not grow back.

this one is now ready to be finished.

And i added to the Earthship New Mexico Post.  I'll just keep adding there as thoughts and days come.  A little at a time.

That robe/coat is such a treasure…and the light…I’m always just knocked out by the light in your place…Hate to think of those short curtains losing their rectangular bottom view out into the world, but warmth is everything in Winter. Love the idea of cloths on curtains and the Tay/Me cloth is still a charmer. I forget about Chinch till you show her…love this shot of her bright beads of eyes in the lower right corner, with that Direct no nonsense gaze that makes me feel like I’m right there. Aaaaaaaaaaack! Stupid boy neighbors just slammed the wall and shook all the glass….they’re doing their TGIF drunk-stoned-yelling and rap playing routine and i’m about to break some glass in front of their door cause I’m sick to death of asking please. First I’ll turn up the Django Reinhart a tad and retreat to the other room to breathe and calm down. AGAIN!!!!! UH OH–I’M GONNA LOG OUT AND MOVE THE COMPUTER. Don’t worry…this has happened before and they come to their senses eventually.

oh DEAR and BLESS ED YOU
i could not live that way. really. i would shrivel up. So, you
see? We all live how we live. We Go. We find the Wherewithall.
and yes Chinche…she asks for what she needs. This morning she
really needed some in front of the fire petting, like in the Old Days before Tay came. And it was a fair request and Tay was not “bad”, but just making it really hard. Hence the Time Out….which she accepts with good spirits because she can’t make it happen on her own and doesn’t really mind being in her “house” for a little minute.

Every time I see your robe, I just want to wrap myself up in it, it’s the most perfect thing to wear when it’s cold and it is going to be cold next week and windy…
I too agree with Michelle about loving the idea of you using some of Maria’s cloths on your curtains: layers for warmth, layers filtering light and most of all, layers of sharing.
And could anything radiate more “feel goodness”than Tay’s cloth, everything about it, the colors, the movement of Tay, just puts a big ole grin on my face.

the robe…it’s hard to imagine the GOODNESS of it, how the blanket was just exactly Enough and how …i don’t know the right words…
but how the edges are the edges of the blanket its self except for
the neckline where there is Kantha that doesn’t show
I am GLAD for the big ole grin. She is good company on Very Cold
Mornings, her not minding them at all and Just Going.

Just noticedin this cloth that you are most excellent at capturing animal spirits in just a few bits of cloth. Look at the pronounced lurking of the crow compared to the bounce of Tay.

I’m catching up…glorious, glorious light. And the robe, I need to finish mine, or make a quicker one with one piece of fabric as you did.

They Finally went out and I slept and this morning so far–silence. About managing to be here–remember that poem by Kay Ryan?
    The Best Of It
    However carved up
    or pared down we get,
    we keep on making
the best of it as though
    it doesn’t matter that
    our acre’s down to
    a square foot. As
    though our garden
    could be one bean
    and we’d rejoice if
    it flourishes, as
    though one bean
    could nourish us.
I stay because I’m here and I have a rent controlled apartment I had to fight for. I fight when I have to.
LOVE Cinche and LOVE Tay and LOVE you.

The color of your robe … the light shining through Maria’s cloths, especially the lower one in the middle … these things are heart-warming.
As is the Tay cloth …

As elegant and mysterious as Tay is, Chinche stole the scene in that second shot. I laughed out loud!

Great curtains. The lovely dyed fabic panels will mever be boring. Great robe too. I love the border pattern, it worked well.
Instead of adding to the bottom of your short curtains think about lowering the curtain rod? You’d have privacy where anyone could see in, but light would come in over the top.
I love this nesting time of year. Planting in the spring and cosying up in the fall are such basic instincts. We are in tune with nature if though we think we aren’t.
Give your critters a pet from me and tell your dogs that they are Good Dogs.

The reason for the curtains at all (most of the time the windows are bare) is to cover the ugly plastic that goes on for the cold months.
i’m doing better this year…getting to it BEFORE a really cold cold
    snap. Maybe i’m learning.
I did…a pet from Tracy and Good Dog!
