So much to see in these seemingly simple buttons … imagine being a designer of buttons, knowing how little mind would be paid, trying nonetheless to draw the eye … and succeeding.
And the cloth … I keep wondering when I will get to this point. But it is enough for now to look at these and add them to my mind’s pantry of inspirations.

Button memories: my mother had a huge jar filled with them, all colors, mother of pearl, all shapes, round, square, oval. My favorites were the cylinder shapes. My sister and I would empty the jar, take string and make necklaces with many of the buttons. Some of the buttons were quite large, maybe from coats, some had shiny bits that my mother said were rhinestones and I loved that word. Although my mother could embroider, knit and crochet, she did not sew clothes but had a good friend who loved to sew so once in a while, when we could save some extra $, her friend would make dresses for us. When I was about 7, she let me choose the buttons for a dress that she was making for me and I chose buttons that resembled little apples cut in half. Those buttons were my favorite parts of the dress.

yes!!!, young ones!!!!! it was late day. still HOT. and they
moved, post to post, pulling them out with the Puller that’s like a winch and the pounding back in. Pulling the fencing. tying it in with such economical pieces of bailing wire, twisting it. Some
places they wove. I’ll get pics of it soon because i SO admire
things like this. Rural areas…Farm people, Ranch people, people with livestock KNOW fencing. It saves animals lives. I LOVED
watching them, their methodical rhythm, their silence as they worked. One, not Garret, the other, his friend goes to New Mex
State. He is a history major. How interesting.

i can’t say she is. She has given herSelf a certain status that is really, apart from the herd. She has her own life now, separate from them in a way, while still OF them. But she follows her own
singular energy, her own singular interests. I am watching this. Wanting to know.
