Jude teaches….What If?……… and i had a sudden urge this morning.  What if?  so before i left for the Old Cowboy's,

this much and then i had to leave.   On the way back from OCB's,  i went to Jan the Dog Trainer's to see the kids that Tenzen sired with her beloved doe Joey and  Joey's young doe daughter Nutmeg.

When i got there,  Jan told me the shocking news that Joey had died yesterday.  When she came out in the morning to feed,  there was Joey.  Dead.  her doeling and buckling just standing there.  Joey had not displayed anything that would have indicated this.  ate normally the night before.  All we can figure is that the difficult kidding of the buckling who was not positioned well and also very large,  must have caused some internal thing that just took her.  The kids are 3 weeks old.

Joey's big buckling who i call Flash.

So,  talk.  and what we talked up is that if the vet will come and clear Sunny Ray,  Jan will take him.  He is a better buck for breeding with her Saneen/Nigerian cross  Neugat (sp. like candy).   She will keep Sunny Ray then  for at least 2 breeding seasons.  Beyond that is Beyond That.  But this is enough.  This would offer relief for old Gideon and i will bring a little wethered buckling Flash here for Gideon's yard mate.

Nutmeg,  a first kidding doe is not being mean to Joey's orphans,  but she won't nurse them too, in addition to her own two.  So Jan is bottle feeding them.  MAYBE  MAYBE  MAYBE  i will take Flash sooner and finish him off on the bottle.  Maybe.

There is good news too.   A new Vet in Magdalena,  a woman,  who is willing to come down to this Valley.   She knows Goats.  Jan likes her a lot.

at Jan's.

    Love the direction this new cloth is taking..what if…can more often then not be a good thing. It is how art is born. So sad about Joey…..so very sad! Nice that happened to stop over and help sort things out. Blessings to you and your friend Jan…so good that you are able to help each other.

    How balance can be a what if: sad about Joey but Sunny Ray can leave and relief come for Gideon in the form of Flash; it’s that old saying that my Dad used to say, “when one door closes, another opens…”
    Those strips of cloth around the mantis opening are so compelling; look like snake pods and to me, make the mantis even more alive.

    yes. Joey. a doe that didn’t need breeding often and would continue to give milk nonetheless. Very sad. Joey.
    but…we figure out how to keep going. I really appreciate, in the deepest sense of the word, really Appreciate the connection with Jan…another woman, younger than I, another woman making her Way.

    The life/death cycles. Difficult but not impossible. Beautiful kids. Beautiful Kantha. Nice what if’ing too. Reposting what I posted at Face book with a nice photograph:
    Caminante, son tus huellas
    el camino, y nada más;
    caminante, no hay camino,
    se hace camino al andar.
    Traveler, the only road
    Is your footsteps, and nothing more;
    Traveler, there is no road,
    We make the road by walking.

    it IS good. love the leaf shapes around pm. they’re like staghorn sumac that turns bright red here in the fall–with clumps of flowers like cardinals perching on their branches.

    i thought of sumac as well it edges all the roads here..and your mantis..emerging..still waiting..seems so right.
    .unexpected loss..changes in balance..these seem so very much of august for me.. gentle day grace

    Love the way this turned more 3-D. The mantis into the scene rather than on the surface.
    And more just going lessons. Sorrow but a need to care for the kids left behind.
    Saw an incredible film last night. “Salt of the Earth,” about the work of photographer Sebastião Salgado. Some beautiful nature photos and a wonderful reforesting story. But he has also seen extreme poverty up close and was in Rwanda… Those images are now seared into my brain.

    As always I love the kantha, but I had the same impression as Beth … that the mantis looks more at home within than it did upon the cloth. Can’t wait to see the inktense-ness that will come next.
    Goat life cycles are beyond my ken, but your telling of their stories is so much a part of this place that I can imagine it no other way. May all go well …

    Hmm, will add this to my list. (I have to get dvds from netflix because I live in a streaming dead zone.) “Marina Abramovic: the Artist is Present” is another I just cannot get out of my head. Vulnerability.
