she added concrete, stone and steel to the garden she created. to make it harder for a future president to scrap her South Lawn Garden…like Regan tore out Jimmy Carter's solar panels.
The Obamas shine with such intelligence, compassion grace and humour, very special people!

Nice observation of history. Lots of folks don’t even know that the white house once had solar panels and that Bush had a shed installed with solar to service the electricity grid for the grounds and that Obama began the installation again. But this garden in stone is such a good idea. The Kitchen Garden was planted in the spring of 2009 by First Lady Michelle Obama with the help of students from a local elementary school. The first kitchen garden on White House grounds since First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt’s Victory Garden during World War II inspired the First Lady’s Let’s Move! initiative to raise a healthier generation of kids. I did not know about the solar panels….but have so much love and respect for the Obama’s….I did not know about the entrance to the garden but love the idea and HOPE it will be treasured along with the garden and what it represents.
