all the folders are sorted.  Much is gone.   if i need to,  i can begin again,  but the lightness is Good.

found these two,  that have been lost to me for some time:

my daughter

her again,  only a couple of seconds on this planet.

and she called today.   i could tell that she was saving something in the conversation as it went along.  and it went along a long time with report of meeting with the Gravel Guy who will level the place for Alyssia's manufactured home,  the closest to the front,  and depending on what he might charge,  continue on to gravel the driveway road up the Hill to where her own home will be built at the top.  He also can dig the hole for the septic tank and then the trenching and the leach field.   Alyssia had found him among all the Gravel Guys and they all like him and he likes them.   So he will write up an estimate for all of it and if they can,  they will let him do what he does.  Leaving them to just build the buildings and the Goats World.  I hope this can happen.  There is a LOT.  And time is short.

so we get to what she was saving…..that it seems to be a problem to find enough pallets that are not pine or scrap wood anymore,  ones for home construction,  so they have been looking at alternatives.

what she thought might work for me as siding is that kind of scrap lumber that comes when they prepare the trees at a sawmill.  How to describe,,,,,,,there is the round tree.  All four sides are sawn off to make the tree square for creating boards.  The sides sawn off are half circles and still have bark.  They found a new lumberyard that told them they can come and load an endless amount of this.  I know this material well from around here.  There is a lumberyard way north of here around Datil and people go there too for this wood that is considered scrap.  I have liked it for a long time.

and then,  the magic and amazing part….just a week or so ago i got an email from Deb Lacativa about a studio her son has been commissioned to build and…..Ta Da!

DSCN4318f

here is the pic she sent of her son's work!   So i even have a VISUAL of the Baba Yaga Hut!!!!!  I love it.  It will be exactly perfect.  Picture it with a front deck and a side lean to.  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and the floors will be WOOD.  I can give up the broken vacuum cleaners and SWEEP with a BROOM!

so it goes.  so it Unfolds according to its own necessity.   Stuff is Good.

and i think this is Next.

    Just so perfect Grace.
I was thinking how good it must be to be able to build like this as you wish. Over here it would not be possible, story on the radio of a couple who bought some woodland and built a kind of straw and wood and mud dwelling, totally not permanent, but someone complained and they have to demolish it. If you have lots of money and influence though, you can often eventually get permission to build expensive 4 bedroomed houses to sell for huge profit on green land which many people love.
Wow – great grandchild! Such a blessing you will be to her and she to you.

Hi Grace, such a beautiful photograph of your daughter as a little girl. I thought it must have been a pic of you as a youngster, she looks sooo much like you!!
The pic of scrap lumber studio reminds me of a log cabin. My Mum dreamed of a log cabin in the Forest (she died over 50 years ago).
In the days of Colonial Australia, settlers built similar huts with lime mortar between the lumber and rendered the inside walls with it as well.
Could be pretty cosy I reckon. How exciting for you, preparing for a new life alongside your Family….oxox

Wonderful solution, possibly healthier. I’m guessing from what you wrote that you probably know that sometimes pallets are treated with chemicals. My mom and dad were able to get some a few years ago for building their “bee hut” that were used for organic coffee, not treated. Hmmm…I need to take a picture and post about the bee hut the next time I go to visit Mom and Dad.

When you said scrap lumber, I hoped for the roundness! Janie made me Baba Yaga doll for me, using her 5 yr old daughter’s drawing- a birthday gift long ago. Do you know the picture book, “Roxaboxen”?

i do not know this book, but just went, of course, to Amazon,
    and read some reviews…
They had measured carefully and Marked where each “homesite” would be…3 of them, and then where the road/driveway would need to go. They marked these measurements with those flags…the pink flag on wires…markers…
When the Gravel Guy was there and looking, he nodded and nodded and then, looking to the side, said….and over there? with
a certain look on his face????? It was where Julian and Destiny had marked the places for their forts. Had snagged some of the flags and marked for themselves, tangles and clusters.
Janie and i live on the same plane

here too, there is “code”. Alyssia’s home will satisfy this in the beginning. And then Daughter Jenny’s tiny home will be up to code too. This is needed for insurance. So here too…there are rules and standards. The Hut for me will be like an additional
Out Building…a guest house or something…a studio.
Where the Hill is….is Rural. there are only 2 more homesites on that road and they are uhhhh, as minimally “code” as is
required. That was part of what they were looking for in the two or three years they looked for land.

we want it simple. I want it simple. To keep me and my stuff dry. a place to be warm when necessary. A porch/deck and that
side lean to. It’s all that is necessary. For them, they will know what all they need. But we are all minimalists. This makes me smile. I birthed minimalists. well, the Females. Son, not so much.

I think Janie went to live with you, 18 yrs now…she loved the heat, was from Texas.
Somewhere here, there are a couple copies, I will look for one for you & the little ones. I loved that book, would read it to my pre-k class, then open the door to a room of big blocks, scarves, stones, etc. for them to build their own- it was always magical.

She’s here. She will travel with me to California. it’s hot there too, in summer. Only winter is different…..drizzle there.
There will be CHILDREN there…this is amazing to me, still, really, ive not taken it in as fully as it really is….
Children. Julian and Destiny, 7 and 8. Jaxon, going on 2. His half brother 7 years. Emrie, still in the womb, paddling around growing facial features and bones….
We are going to give them a World to inherit. I think of this constantly now.

Your daughter is so beautiful. She looks happy, loved. Her blue eyes reflect her love for you and life. Funny, I got excited about you sweeping the wood floors and you not needing a (broken!) vacuum. Sometimes our ‘new-fangled’ inventions just make life more difficult. How much more simple to just sweep a wood floor… brooms don’t need to be plugged in.

It is just what is to be – the wood is without chemicals, for sure…something that niggled in me when you wrote about the pallets. My daughter had a large fit when I had suggested the possibility of growing some food in pallets when I retired…we did a garden instead – her stories convinced me of the rightness of our decision.
So, beautiful bark covered, round wood for the exterior..it will be life a cottage from a fairy tale, one I have always imagined and drawn with my little stories of living in the woods…you will have a Hobbit home, beautiful to sweep with a broom! You will truly be in your home..wonderful, wonderful shift coming alive in not so distant times..Beautiful.
